Sorry if this has been covered before. I searched and could not find.

I am changing my A2 stock to a M4 type stock. Is it necessary to purchase the tool to tighten the castle nut or is there a way around this?

The correct wrench costs $5-10.
Do it right.

You may have success with a strap wrench.
You could use Channellocks but you'll mangle the nut.

Buy the wrench. $7.

If you're ever going to work on more than just the stock, you might as well just by a AR15 multi-tool for $35ish.

Install and disassemble Free Float Tubes
•Install and disassemble Barrel nut
•Install and disassemble Compensator
•Install and disassemble Barrel Extension Tube
•Install and disassemble Carbine Stock
•1/2" dive for socket wrench
•Screw driver tip for buttstock screw

I know you're just doing a stock right now.  But that's only the beginning.  Trust me...
