Has anyone here made an AR variant in whatever caliber for the purpose of hunting!? I was reading and looking at some real nice AR in .308 which called my attention but at the same time after seeing the rails, 10 power scopes, bipods, etc it kind of makes me think is more for the purpose of sniping at a range or something rather than hunting, it seems as it would weigh more than a regular hunting rifle. What are your thoughts on this!?

An AR10 will definitely weigh more than a typical hunting gun; whether that's an issue or not depends on what kind of hunting you do.  An AR15 won't, depending on how it's outfitted.  It's a legal cartridge where I live and will kill anything I hunt.  I wouldn't use it for bears without some more research, but it's deadly on deer & hogs.

I'm hunting with 2 ar-15 in 6.8.

If I'm stalking the deers, My 12.5" SBR in 6.8 come out to play.  I will eventually get a supressor for this setup.

If I'm waiting in a treestand, my 18" SPR in 6.8 will be used.

I hunt ground hogs with my 14.5" Colt, with irons, all the time. I also plan on hitting some coyotes at some point too; basically, if I ever see one. Might also be going to hunt some hogs next month.

I did build a 20" HBAR upper specifically for hunting and punching paper more accurately at longer ranges. I plan on using a bipod and scope at some point when I have the funds for said items.

I like my carbine because it's somewhat light, and it's very easy to carry along while walking through fields, etc. A .308 AR would be awesome, I just don't have the need as of yet as 5.56/.223 does just fine for the game I'm hunting.

Right now i do my hunting in south florida which are very small white tails, i think the ar without upgrading the caliber would do just fine. I am going to start purchasing uppers and lowers stripped and truly build myself one just for hunting. The one i just got was full upper and full lower. Not really built lol
