Next month I have a chance to go prairie dog hunting, so it is time for a scope. When I tried the scope from my deer rifle it was not very comfortable. I could not get the scope far enough from my face. I know that I could just buy an extended mount, but I am wondering if any good scopes have a more comfortable relief that i could use with my existing mount. I have a leupold with 4" relief right now.
Thank you. |

This is a problem with many scopes, especially when mounted directly to the rail with rings. Likewise, illuminated or AO scopes with long eyepieces have the same problem. This is why one-piece mounts with forward offset are popular on ARs.
Another option is to use a longer buttstock, but that gets into your whole style of shooting. Here's the Big List of AR15 one-piece mounts, including sections on rings and extended rails: Big List of AR15 One-Piece Mounts |
