hey guys im having a problem with my newly built ar I have had since september maybe put about 100 rounds through it so far mostly since I have been hunting deer since october but my issue is the other day I was shooting my ar and on about the 10th shot my BCG was stuck all the way back between the bolt release and forward assist and I could not get it to come back forward and using the charging handle all i could do was get it to move back some but never forward I took my ar apart and the BCG was half way in the buffer tube but everything seemed fine and looked fine except the forward assist didnt seem to be working right and it was sticking out further than normal i pushed it back in and and went shooting today and once again had the same problem. Can anyone help me out on this please if you need more from me I can elaborate more IN my opinion I feel it has something to do with the forward assist gripping it but Im not expert by anyways.         ANYTHING WILL BE APPRECIATED I NEED HELP PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I had an out of spec receiver extension that caused this awhile back. I had changed the carrier, buffer, and spring to no avail. When I swapped out the receiver extension the problem went away. It was an Anderson complete lower. I'm not sure what extension Anderson uses, but changing it seemed to have solved the issue. Mine would get stuck back, but if I popped the rear takedown pin it would release back into the forward position.

The forward assist won't grip if the carrier is too far back. It's designed to assist when it's not quite into battery, not open.

alright thanks ill look into that too and yeah i pop out the take down pins and its still stuck had to take the receiver extension off and than take the lower off the upper before I could get the BCG out.

When you removed the tube did it free up?  Or was it still stuck inside the upper?

no even after i remove the tube and spring the BCG is still stuck and requires me to pop out the take down pins then the lower has to be pulled back from over the BCG being stuck all the way back and im trying to fix it now from today and after all that being done its still stuck in their and not coming out so far.

The forward assist should not protrude into the carrier path at all unless pushed in, so it is most likely not hanging the carrier up. Can you see the face of the bolt to see what position it is in as far as its rotation?  Is the extractor parallel with the ejection port or is it canted?   to be honest your best bet is to probably take a block of wood and a hammer and use the wood between the carrier and hammer and try to tap the carrier back into the upper. If the cam pin is what is causing the bind then the carrier is not going to come out until the bolt is rotated back out of the way.

yeah I finally removed the carrier from the upper and it appears perfectly fine like it should. Now I'm just trying to figure out what is causing this to happen now ?

Wipe down the receiver and carrier thoroughly and inspect it for any signs of where it was binding. I would think that if it was that tight there should be some sort of sign inside the receiver as to where it was caught.

I wiped everything down and even looked into the receiver and can not find and signs of rubbing or anything like that.

I don't see where he said it fell out. He said it was sticking out more than normal. Which I missed when I read it the first time. It shouldn't protrude into the carriers path at all unless you are pushing the button. I would look there as well.

Sounds like the forward assist broke off in the upper and jammed itself between the upper and bcg. Punch the forward assist roll pin out and replace it

Hey thanks guys for all the responses It was the forward assist that was stopping the bolt from coming back forward somehow it must have came broken from the factory and in the process of shooting it would come rattle out and grip the bolt somewhere because as i stated before the forward assist lever came out without me ever messing with it. I went shooting today and put about 100 rounds through it and never had one problem.
