Ok, I'm building an AR with a LMT 16" 1/7 twist flat top upper. My question is what kind of distance am I gonna be able to get out of a carbine like this?

Further than you can see a target with your naked eye.  At least further than my eyes can see.

So what, past 400m? I can still see the target easily at 300-350m.

I wish I had a 400 yard range to go to, but then again, it's a PITA to change targets out at the 100 yard mark.

FWIW the Army's M4 qualification range is 300m and the maximum effective range is listed as 500m for a point target (think torso) and 600m for an area target (think vehicle) and they have 14.5" barrels which should impart less velocity to the projectile than a 16" barrel. You should be able to get at least the values listed above if not 50-150m more out of a well tuned 16" carbine.

Anything I can do to consistently get 400m out of it besides practice? I've got a nice long field to shoot in.

Free floating the barrel & a good trigger would help to squeeze a bit of accuracy out of it.  It all depends on whether you got a good barrel or not.

The LMT barrel should be more than enough to get out to 400m. Use a good freefloat handguard like a DD Omega, get a well tuned trigger of your choice and practice practice practice and you should be in good shape.

Put some $ into an RRA or CMMG trigger. Stay away from Jard (in general they are too finicky in my experience).
Don't float the barrel if it is a light weight. If it's a med. wt./hvy. wt., then floating might/probably will help.
Do you hand load?
You can take p-dogs out as far as your rifle keeps MOA, coyotes to 450 by some people's standards, but deer maybe 175ish give or take, and nothing bigger than that...
There is a Youtube guy that takes some nice shots with his setup...
Long Range .223
You gonna punch paper or start hunting? With a 1/7 you can shoot some heavier bullets for longer ranges.

It's a govt profile. And I think I'd like to do a little of both, hunting and target.
