| I am in need of a good Ar scope that will do the job up close and personal but also useable out to 700 or so meters! Would like the Acog TAO1 but a little pricey for me. Any ideas for something cheaper with the smae type features (I like the iron sight on tope of the scope)? Appreciate any help! |
It doesn't depend on batteries. Standard reticle even when the batteries are dead. There is a M2 variant out there with tritium, I believe. If you want illuminated, and you don't want batteries, I think Trijicon or an Elcan are the only games in town. |

It is hard to beet a ACOG. I do like the IOR scope also. www.csgunworks.com [email protected] Here’s some testimonials about CS GunWorks for AR15 Board Mike at CS Gunworks is... |

For 700 meters, I'd say you really need something that goes up closer to 10x magnification... unless you're talking about well defined targets on a known distance range. (I've dinged 700yd steel plenty of times with a 4x ACOG on a KD range) But, for a "low" budget GP scope for an AR, I had a 1.5-5x Leupold with the illuminated duplex reticle and the 30mm tube that was pretty hard to beat in that price range. Optics not as good as the Nightforce I have now, but it only cost about half as much. The reticle can be used for rough range estimation and the "post" part of the reticle can be used for holdover. Better yet, Leupold is now selling a version of this scope - the MR/T M2 I think - that has low profile "sniper" type windage and BDC elevation knobs, as well as a more combat-type range estimating and holdover reticle. I don't know what the price is. Both the above require batteries if you want illumination, though. But I think they make a non-illuminated version of the 1.5-5 with the same combat type reticle that is probably at least $100 cheaper. |
