1st-Will all uppers fit on an AR lower? 2nd-What type of calibers are currently availible for uppers? I want to bulid a .45 carbine AR style. And last I want to get a lower to start building (call me anal) I don't want a 6.8 upper on a 5.56 lower I thought I saw someone, some time back, that sold a major company AR lower that was blank and could be engraved. Thanks for your help!! Any dealers that read this I'd like your input also.

Hi Yes most all Ar15 uppers and lowers will fit onto each other. The exception being the early Colts. They used a large hole with a double screw assy. So Milatary upper and lowers could not be used. They have sense changed back to the std. Small hole. There are several co. Out there such as CMMG and Sun divel that mark there lowers as MULTI. But it does not matter leagaley if you use a diffent cal. upper on a .223 lower. You can get .45 uppers only from Olimpic arms (not very Good). And a very poor mag system. Seen some work being done on a good .45 lower that uses grease gun mag's. But its still pre production. There are several co. That can engrave your lower with just about anything you want. Check out the freguently asked questions. As to cal. of uppers. There is everyting from .22,.223,9mm,7.62x39,6.5,6.8 .40,10mm and several co that make .454socom and .50cal. Allmost all cal are avalable. Hope this helps.

There are a few companies that have 6.8 marked lowers. I have a Superior Arms that is marked as 6.8. Need to get another one of those. I think Stag? may be another but not sure. As stated by the other poster it doesn't matter from a legal standpoint if it is on a 5.56 marked lower. I have one both ways right now. But I do like having the right caliber marked lower for my 6.8's. You won't be able to get all the available calibers that way tho'.

The Cav15 MkII is already available and takes GG mags.
They're available from Armalite in the Eagle line. I think some of the dealers may still have actual Cav marked lowers still in stock.
You will need a mag block, and Slash's buffer is recommended.
Check out the CAV Arms forum in the Industry section.
