I purchased a Magpul ASAP sling plate and I think I have everything tightened down properly, but the extention on the back interferes with my stock wrench. I want to stake it, but I'm concerned that if I want to remove it later, that I won't be able to get a tool on the castle nut good enough to torque through the staking.

Is there a tool with a lower profile I can use for this purpose that the sling plate won't get in the way of? Or am I doing something wrong in the installation?

Thanksin advance for the help. And hope this is the appropriate forum for this question.

The lugs should not be on the side next to the sling plate.  Sounds like your castle nut is backwards.

The lugs face the rear. But the extension on the sling plate still gets in the way of my stock wrench. No so bad that I can't get it tightened on, but I doubt I could get enough grip/ movement on the castle nut to get it off if staked (when the lugs rotate to the bottom, I can't get to them with the stock wrench).

Do castle nuts come in different widths?

I had the same problem with mine.

I ended up gouging my tube because of this.

useing this type (not exactly this one) : http://www.cheaperthandirt.com/LargeImage.aspx?sku=77207  which made it very difficult to tighten (due to the thinckness on the tool) resulting slippage causeing gouge.

I ended up useing this (again not this one): http://www.cheaperthandirt.com/LargeImage.aspx?sku=3-1024271  useing this I had alot more "bite" and control when torquein' down before the stake due to being slimmer and smaller over.

Disclaimer: just used this site for refrence as I got my tools from another sorce.
