I just received an ASA 9mm conversion block from Brownells. Upon removing it from its packaging I have to say nice machining and finish. This is where the complements end. After I had ordered I had read on these boards that people were having problems with this block but I thought I would have some magazine that would fit. My colt mags don't fit. My IMI UZI mags with the smooth backs don't fit. My IMI UZI mags with the ridge on the back start to go in but are very tight and won't go in all the way. Only mag that came close to fitting was a crap Pro Mag. But because it was adjusted to stay in a Colt block, it doesn't go in all the way either. Doesn't mater because that mag never worked right to begin with. The block fit nicely into a forged DPMS and a PWA receiver but didn't want to go into an Olympic without force. This thing is going back Monday. I will get either one of the Hahn Precision blocks or the VM HY-Tech block offered by Brownells. What are your opinions of these blocks and what other blocks is there that are usually in stock with their manufacturers? |
Psst!......Steve Has them cheaper. |
| I had the same problem Skully is talking about. The mag block pictured on the Brownells site is not the the one they are actually selling. I called Brownells and made them aware of the problem and they offered a refund. Brownells did not seem to care much that there is an error in what is advertised. I then called ASA and they stated they actually make 2 blocks, a gray one and a black one. The gray ones are for Uzi mags only, the matte black take both Uzi and Colt mags. The guy I spoke to at ASA said to ship the block to them and along with your mags and they will fit the mags for free. They were willing to stand by thier product. |
Thank you all for the information. Please keep the opinions comming. I want to know what is working out there.
I received the gray block and it didn't accept anything
I get a dealer discount. If he can beat that price have him contact me. I'm working on a project that may turn into a product and I will need several.
I have 30+magazines. Are they going to fit all of them for free? I would rather have a block that will fit my mags rather then have mags made to fit their block. |
Let me know how yours turns out. Like I said originally, the machining and finish look nice. If ASA does the mods and refinishes it then I might be interested. I'm looking for a block I can buy in quantity because these are for a gun I may offer for sale in the future. I would rather have them shipped to me ready to use then have to have them fit. |
Olympic used to make a block that took Glock mags, but stopped making it- now all tht is available is their dedicated Glock mag lower. Kinda a dumb move on their part IMHO. |
