I'm new to the boards and recently just picked up my first AR-15.  It's a Bushmaster ORC...please don't laugh. I received this weapon as a gift from my father along with an EOTech XPS-2.  The other day he handed me a pelican case that had an ATN ThOR 320 4.5x thermal scope out of the blue.  Said he got a good deal on a dozen of them and wanted to share.  Of course I was more than happy to take another gadget off his hands as it looked like it could be of use for low light hunting (feral hogs are bad here in Texas).  The issue that I seem to have is that I don't know what I can do with it!  The EOTech sight doesn't do much good sitting behind the ThOR as you have to be pretty much on top of it to see the whole screen inside.  It does come with a feature that allows me to add a digital reticle to the screen and adjust it for zero but I don't think I want that guy hanging off a rifle every day.  I also have a Remington 700 in the .308 flavor in an AICS 2.0 chassis, an M1A Loaded in an EBR chassis, and an M1 Garand in the original wood furniture.  I have decent Bushnell glass on the Rem700 and M1A and tried to use the ThOR as a clip-on sight but all I get is blur.

Any help on this would be greatly appreciated!

You might want to ask this question in the night vision forum, as well. It is under the "Armory" tab: http://www.ar15.com/forums/f_6/18_Night_Vision.html

Hope you get an answer soon...

Thanks for the advise! Wasn't sure if I should start here or there and didn't want to double post.

I dont know if the thor is rated for .308 recoil. It might be rated for 5.56 or less. You might want to check before you try it.

It is a stand alone optic. It should be easy to switch out scopes. The Eotech will retain zero. Just put it back in the same slot.
