There seems to be a very large assortment of muzzle devices available to chose from but, most retailers do not list whether or not a particular device is AWB compliant or not. Unfortunately this makes a big difference to me since I (unfortunately) reside in NY.  Does anyone know how to determine what features would make a device compliant or not, or is each one looked at by ATF and judged yes or no?  I guess short of emailing each individual manufacturer you guys are my only hope!!   I'm right now looking at the YHM Phantom comp/brake model 5M1, will this work?

Also, as far as permanently attaching it: I've heard several people talking about silver soldering the device on.  Is this just like plumbing silver solder?  if so this seems like the way to go. Welding just seems strange to me, lots of heat sounds like it could distort the muzzle end of the barrel.  The pinned and welded method seems like a lot of work but, I guess would be the easiest to remove if you needed to.

Also, as far as permanently attaching it: I've heard several people talking about silver soldering the device on.  Is this just like plumbing silver solder? No, Plumbing solder has a melting temp of ~400 oF.  Silver solder has a melting temp of 1175+oF  if so this seems like the way to go. Welding just seems strange to me, lots of heat sounds like it could distort the muzzle end of the barrel.  The pinned and welded method seems like a lot of work but, I guess would be the easiest to remove if you needed to.

As long as you are buying a muzzle devise listed as a Compensator/muzzle break you're ok.  It just can't be listed as a flash hider.  If you are not comfortable permanently attaching it yourself there are companies who will do this for a nominal fee.  Some companies will attach for free when you buy the barrel.  I have welded breaks and see no problems from it.  Another option would be build on a pre-ban lower.  You then can attach any muzzle devise you wish and it doesn't have to be permanent.

I didn't think NY allowed anything but perm attached compensators, but I may be wrong (maybe only new rifles).

WOW, I just watched the videos on their website, I'm sold.  I didn't have $100 in the budget for a compensator but.......      I guess i should redirect the funds from something else that can more easily be upgraded down the road, there goes that titanium firing pin!
