I know this should probably be on another page, but am asking for some advice about putting a scope on my A-2.  30 years ago using the iron sights was not a big issue, but at 60 the vision is not what it used to be.

Tried mounting a 3x9x40 on a carry handle mount, but could not get the cross hairs to come anywhere near the red dot of my bore sight.

Can this be done or should I look at either a mounting system on handrails or just what?

Thanks in advance.

Mounting a large scope on top of the carry handle is a poor option.  The height over bore just dosn't give you a good trajectory nor a good cheek weld.

Your options then become:
1) Get a scope that was specifically designed to work with the carry handle (built in mount so it mounts much lower).  Examples of this include the orginal Colt 3x & 4x scopes, Trijicon ACOG line, and better yet the Trijicon Compact ACOG line.

2) Sell the upper receiver and use the money to buy a new flattop upper and mount your barrel and scope to that..  This is a very cost effective option if you have the tools (receiver block, barrel wrench, and vice).

Go with an ACOG, I have a TA01 on my AR15A2 and love it.
