[Begin rant while chanting "This is my rifle, this is my gun. This one's for fighting, this one's for fun"] Brass marks add character! Anyhow, I have seen some use black electrical tape on the brass deflecter. WARNING: I pick on anyone I see who applies black electrical tape to their brass deflecter. The only way to avoid being the butt of any joke is if the shooter is blasting steel cased ammo because I will cut them some slack. Another thing you can do to remove the marks is to use the Hoppes copper solvent and a toothbrush. I know of someone who uses this method to clean the deflector when a used gun comes through his shop. Remember, your gun is a tool, it is meant to be used, and brass marks are part of the game on the AR-15 platform. Nice second post. Are you certain that you are not a ?[End rant while thinking: This is my rifle. There are many like it, but this one is MINE...] ETA: End rant and a few parting words. |
Even the "smartazz ones" were being very kind! Using your first (or second) post to ask something like that is just asking for a roasting. Most of the armchair commandos on here have to pick on someone to make themselves feel better... As some have said, if it bothers you, it will clean off. After a while, you will realize that little nicks and dings just add character...I don't beat the hell outta my guns, and if you want your guns to look like safe queens, that that is your thing and that is fine...just beware of the mall ninjas who will laugh... |
Yeah, then you get brass marks on the actual upper But hey, it adds character. Now excuse me while I go key my brand new 2006 GT Mustang. What? It adds character. ![]() ETA: Okay okay I do agree that the case deflector IS supposed to be marked up, but yeah. |

Try geting a small pice of anti slip textured self adhisive tape. They sell difent sizes at home depoit. Cut and applly. As it gets messed up. Remove clean brass deflector with alcohal and put some more on. Seams to work and I have seen several done like that on the pic Thread. |
You have no idea how many uppers I have receivedover the last few years that have something protecting the brass deflector. I'm telling you, 95% of AR owners ARs look brand new, will never be shot more than 500 rounds, and will only be shot while sitting at a bench, at a paper plate no more than 50yds away. |
Maybe you can start a brass deflector refinishing service. "Your brass deflector will shine like new for $50!" |
