I know this question is going to make me look like an idiot but who cares and here goes. I have been looking through the amazing pics of everyone's rifles and noticed on some there is something I have never seen before. In fact you can see it on the rifle that is in the picture behind the AR15.COM Title. What I am talking about is on the pins just above the trigger and just behind the Magazine Release there is "something" stretched between them. This is on both side of the rifle. What is this called and what is it for? I have never seen this before until I got on here. I love this site and I have learned alot from reading your posts and looking at the pics. Please dont judge me by my first post on here being this one. Anyway, thanks for the help in advance for letting me know what the heck this is. Jeff

Those are KNS Gen 1 Anti Rotation pins.  They keep the hammer and trigger pins from rotating or walking out of the receiver.

Right on. Now, the REAL question is: are they necessary? Some people swear by them, saying they have had trouble in the past with walking pins. Others say they are great for full-auto rifles. Others say they are completely useless in most rifles, and they are a waste of money.

I'm convinced that all three possibilities given above are correct, depending on the person, his rifle, and the conditions under which it's used.

I bought a set because the pins on my RRA were always jutting out a bit after a day at the range.  To me they look cool and does have some purpose as in my case.

I look at it this way: If they were necessary for FA weapons, wouldn’t the military have adopted them by now?

And: A correctly installed and serviceable FCG will not allow the pins to “walk”.

the military doesn't have to pay 10k+ for their receivers.

us mere civilians don't have the luxury of buying M16's by the truckload.

They are generally irreplaceable. Repairable, depending, but near impossible to replace.

KNS pins are cheap insurance. They look cool too

Thanks for asking, I've been wondering what those were as well. Thought they might be part of the mechanism for the full auto guns.
