what does he mean by:

completing the front sight?

are these 9mm only?
4/1/2014 10:44:06 AM EDT
[#5]
He means that you need to have your own front sight post/spring/plunger.
The hole should be .625, so you could pin it to whatever barrel you want so long as it's got the right diameter.
However, it's designed for 9mm, so there's no gas port/tube hole.  If you were putting this on a .223 build, you'd have to either pin this in front of some other gas return block, or drill this out for it.

He means that the sight and the parkerizing are the only things he has left to do, before they are ready. Yes, they are only 9mm.
Just spoke with him, and he said it will come fully finished and assembled...ready to be attached to your upper.

Are DOE hand guards the same length or shorter the regular carbine hand guards?

IIRC, shorter, but longer than the LaFrance HGs.

They are shorter - I might be able to get a comparison picture up in a little bit.

Member CSMW a while back made an SBR with DOE/M231 handguards and a standard handguard cap and FSB, I think the barrel had to be around 8" for that.

If you look carefully at this thread, there's actually an interesting portend of what was to come - if you look at the date stamp, it might tell you a little bit of something about the determination and patience of the Retro community.

Check EE,  you can use any 223 upper for a 9mm  build ,
It just doesn't work the other way around . Mine is 223 ,
Only draw back is the gas hole

I got this out of the EE and it got here yesterday....now Im just waiting for my Nodak lower to come in. I hope it gets here soon.

Pistol for now, SBR later.

if anyone finds a a1 styled 9mm upper with the big case deflector, let me know.

i would like one.

it does not have to be a colt one. but i would like one with the big case deflector and a a1 sight/receiver style

Nodak has 604 Uppers

Rock River has 9mm Case Deflectors

Only difference between that setup and a Colt 9mm upper is a gas tube hole and the lack of colt proofs.

You saved me some coin.  I was watching that one decrease in price and my self control failed me about not before you got it.  I have no need for a DOE build but really really want one, or two at twice the price the barrels will be going for.

You're welcome

I got to looking at the 177E2 project I had going and figured I already have a retro 16" carbine and didnt need a second when it'd be cooler to have the DOE.

You need a slickside 604 type upper with 9mm case deflector, then pick whatever barrel you want.

You also need a 9mm carrier, buffer and hammer.
Now you can use a standard 223 lower parts kit, but you will need
A ramped bolt, you can get them at adco. Get a9mm barrel and you are set
