We could kick around the can all day about the pros and cons of one thing versus another.  (especially here on ARFcom)
If you look back the lightweight barrel was used when the AR was new.  Heat dissipation is greater with a heavier barrel, which is good for full auto.  It will save you a few ounces if your gonna carry it all day.

My first rifle was a basic bushmaster rifle. Part by part I changed it.   Then changed it again, and again.  To me there is no perfect AR.  The AR platform is the lego kit of guns.  You really cant go wrong if you start with a reputable foundation; which you have done here, and stray from cheaply produced parts.
Keep in mind once you have your lower you can swap out uppers all day.  I can't be of more technical help but what you have put together with PSA looks like a solid start.
Here's to the many different variations your new rifle will become.

FDE is played out. Otherwise, all good. You should be fine without the lightweight profile barrel.

The fad is over.
Get out the rattle cans.

OP, parts list looks good.
Personally not a fan of MBUS. Reminds me of a European cabinet hinge.
I went with Troy which, IMO, is a better piece.

Thanks for a good explanation, i like the lego of guns part. i don't plan on carrying it all day so i will stick with the heavier barrel, thanks. Can you recommend a good scope for no more than 300 if there are any?, Eventually i will put more money into it but for now i want something decent

You will not need the front MBUS with the kit you are getting (since it will have your standard front sight).

Here is an example of a Troy rear sight:

When you get your rifle, first thing you should check is to make sure PSA put the right gas tube in.

Sorry, I had to be the one that said it.

But, like everyone else has said, you got a good parts list going. I would stick with everything being black, but thats just my preference. Im building mine now, and cant decide between 16" or 20". I also dont know how well PSA's upper will match my Armalite lower. Too many choices and decisions to make, dammit.

For a scope under $300, it might be tough to find a good higher magnification one. I would look for a 1-4x, depending on how far you plan on shooting. They make for one of the most flexible optics, IMHO. I would look for a good deal on a Leupold, Nikon, or Burris 1-4x. You might be able to pickup the scope and mount for $300-$350 if you look around or check out the EE.

Keeping the mbus but going all black, now anyone recommend a good scope for under 200?
3/7/2012 10:49:45 AM EDT
[#17]
well i did i, i ordered the rifle  kit minus the rear sight because in the kit they did not have the option of black color for mbus, so i ordered it from amazon for 1.47 more.Tryed to call em but could not  get a hold of them. Also i didn't need to order the stripped lower because the guy i deal with locally had them in stock for 95.00 out the door, which saves me 20 bucks. psa has em for 79.99 plus 10 bucks shipping, plus i would have to pay for a ffl,  Wonder how long they take to ship

I ordered a complete upper assembly from PSA on Feb 22.  I just got an email that it shipped today.  Can't wait!
