The AN/PEQ-14 Integrated Laser/White Light Pointer (ILWLP) attaches to the M9 pistol and combines the functions of a flashlight, visible aiming laser, an infrared (IR) aiming laser, and an IR illuminator into a single lightweight system. AN/PEQ-14 ILWLP at PEO Soldier's Flickr Page ~Augee |

I've never seen an optic mounted that far forward before. I wonder how well that works? Works just fine, just makes the rifle more nose heavy. Also, the optic is guaranteed to move around by at least a few MOA (as they appear to be using standard, non-FF rails). That seems like an incredibly poorly thought out setup. Extremely front-heavy and cumbersome, hard-to-find reticle, limited optic angular usability, high chance of optic movement, and the handguard is useless as a grip. This looks like something a gangster or somalian warlord might use. |

Or a U.S. servicemember with a chain of command that requires everyone to have a set of iron sights but does not issue BUIS who's stuck with the choice between a less than ideal setup or no optics at all, and opts for, in my opinion, the smart thing, and makes do with what he's got. The POI shift on the KAC RAS while real is, in practice negligible enough to use as a battle sight - remember that most IR LAMs on military weapons are mounted to the KAC RAS as well, and hold zero well enough to be more than useful. ~Augee |
