I'm new to the AR world and started with a MT6731 which Colt describes as Match competition. The accuracy I've attained thus far is FAR from Match Competition level. Average groups are 3 MOA . If I shoot a 2" group, thats a good one. The ammo ranges from a number of different handloads to several factory choices. Same results. Is this what to expect from a factory stock rifle (with the exception of a Jewell trigger) ? I'm disappointed in the proud Colt name at this point, but still proud to own the rifle. Cal |

I think the first question to ask (and this is not to be a jerk) is how does this compare with your accuracy level with other rifles? Without something to judge against, it's hard to answer this question. If you routinely shoot 1/2 MOA 10-shot groups with something else, then there may be an issue with the rifle. If you're just getting started, especially with distance shooting, then the problem most likely lies somewhere else. A "Match" rifle doesn't automatically turn out "Match" results. A lot still depends on the shooter. Again, if you're an accomplished shooter already, I'll apologize in advance. Your post just doesn't give us a lot of info to go on. |

I appreciate your humble reply. I can't I shoot 1/2" groups regularily but it does happen. MOA is common in several of my rifles which include a couple of Coopers, Brownings, heavy barrell x-40 Remington and misc others. 100 yd range is generally what I shoot as when working up loads by do "ring the iron @ 500m too. For 100 yards, that's still a very good group. If you shoot better with other guns, then yeah, there's something wrong with your AR. But if you get the same result with other guns, it's simply your shooting ability... hope that didn't sound bad because 2-3'' at 100 yards is actually very good, IMO. Of course, there's always the super awesome tactical delta force operators on here who get sub MOA with military surplus at 100 yards, which is pure BS. |

What twist barrel? What grain bullets? Those are 2 important questions. Usually. I have a regular Stag 2H upper that is a 1/9 twist and I have shot 1-2" groups at 100yds with Mk262 (one five round group with Mk262 under an inch) and Prvi 75gr. .223. That same upper shot minute of legal sized paper with XM193, slightly better (6-8") with Guat, 2-4" with IMI M855, USA223R1, and Q3131A. ![]() I would play around with a bunch of different weight bullets and see if your rifle likes one flavor better than the other. If nothing shoots well when the rifle is rested/bagged, then yeah, you're AR is jacked (or you need to practice shooting the AR platform quite a bit more). ***ETA: if you smoke or whatever, it's not gonna help groups size. Caffiene drinks don't help either. Don't ask why I know this... -X |

Scope- Leupold Mark 4 3-9 Mount- Larue SPR 1.5 Rifle is stock with the exception of a Jewell trigger These groups are far from what I'm accustomed to. I read about guys shooting sub MOA groups like its a regular thing is messing with my head. It must be highly modified versions of the gun. Maybe thats what it takes to make these rifles shoot. Is that a safe assumption. I started with 55gr bullets in several brands and a load that shoots one hole groups in my Cooper. Tried loads mentioned on this site specific to AR's. Yesterday I tried 63 gr Sierras and Hornady 68 gr BTHP match bullets. with the same results for each. The Sierra's were a little better than the Hornadys. This rifle has a 16" 1/9" barrel. Cal |

There are umpteen-jillion different factors that could be effecting the accuracy of your weapon. It could be you, your familiarity with the platform or the weapon. When it all comes down to it, you may just have a lemon. If you are routinely laying down sub-MOA groups with other weapons, then I would take a long hard look at the weapon. Headspace it, check for any damage or irregularities to the crown, etc. |

I've decided to buy a different upper and leave this Colt upper intact for resale purposed if I decide to sell the gun. What is considered more accurate a Les Baer upper or LaRue Stealth Sniper upper? I'm sure there are many opinions as there is in everything else. Cal |
