I built a complete CMMG 1:7 twist 14.5 inch barrel, with Vltor Modstock to play around with and have general shits and giggles. I put an Aimpoint on it originally and it works really well. Now I'm kinda wanting to play with shooting medium distances(up to 500) and use it as more of a prairie dog/coyote gun. I'd like to put a nice scope on there and use it for this purpose but am wondering about the accuracy. Assuming I do my part can I expect to get enough accuracy out of this shorter barrel to hunt p-dogs and yote's?

And since we all like to say get both around here, buying another dedicated upper plus a scope isnt an option right now. Scope is only thing in the budget.

Thanks guys

The shorter barrel will have no affect on accuracy. Only velocity. But if you plan on using iron sights, a longer barreled rifle will be more beneficial because you have a longer sight picture.
But if you plan on scoping the rifle, it should be just as accurate as a 20".

Is it possible to one-hole a .223 AR at 100 yards?
