Reading about the possible group buy TA31, and Have a few questions. I know tritium for the ilumination breaks down over time. The Acog would probably last most of us a lifetime. Can they be Factory recharged if they go dull? With the donut recticle, I quess the Donat would be zerod in the middle?? Then what does each line underneath range at. I asume the 6 is 600 meters. The others arnt marked. Which mark is 200? 300? Thanks. |

Tritium has a half-life of 12.5 years roughly. This means that in 12.5 yrs. the tritium-only portion of the reticle will be roughly half as bright as it is now. If you have a BAC ACOG, the tritium is supplemented with a fiber optic tube to collect light, so you will continue to have a functional daytime reticle even after there is no active tritium at all. Out of warranty, the scopes can be recharged by Trijicon for $250 currently. Tag/tagged just means that people are adding it to their active topic list so they can be notified of replies later. You can also zero the middle of the donut at 50yds and be fairly close to the bullet drop compensation markings. |

I know the BDC on the TA31 is set for carry handle mount, 20" barrel, shootin the 55 grain bullet. Anyone know how well the TA31's BDC will function sitting on a carry handle of a 16' carbine shootin XM193? (MT6731. No comp.) Also- If a TA31 works best on a carry handle of a 20" barreled AR (shotting XM193) and a TA01NSN works best with a 16" barreled flat top (shooting M855) then which ACOG works best on the carry handle of a 16" carbine? (XM193 or M855 in that carbine with the carry handle mounted ACOG?) This thread (http://ar15.com/forums/topic.html?b=3&f=18&t=152794) does not specifically answer either question. Thanks in advance. |
There are basically three factors that affect trajectory with respect to the ACOG BDC 1Ballistic coeficent 2Velocity 3 higth of the optic over the bore (flat top vs carry handle) Of the three factors HOB and BC are the most important. The velocity change from a 16 to a 20 inch barrel will have less effect than changiong ammo or mounting position. So if you want to use a 16 inch carry handle upper and M193 ammo your best bet is a TA01 or TA31 not the NSN or F series. |
I have a TA31 on a flat top 16" upper and shoot M193. It really is not as big of deal as it seems. You can learn how your rifle/ ammo combo shoots and even though it is not perfect with the BDC you can still use it as a guide. What I am trying to say is if you decide you like it better on the flat top you can still make it work. Either way I'm sure you will love your new scope. |
| I JUST got my TA01 in the mail today and am going to mount it with a TA51 mount on a flat top 16" upper. I also recently bought a case of Win. Q3131A 55 gr. and I have a Colt 1/9 twist barrel. How far off will this combination be in comparison to the fatory markings?? Anyone try a similar combo? |

I think most any question about zeroing specific ACOGs using rifles and ammo other than what the specific ACOG calls for can be answered here; www.ar15.com/forums/topic.html?b=3&f=18&t=152794 |
