I recently did some horse trading and got ahold of an Acog reflex sight model RX-01-14 6.5 MOA  with an amber dot. The dot does not seem very bright- don't get me wrong I can make it out quite well, but it is surly not as bright as my Eotech model 512. Is the Acog a little lighter than the Eotech, or is the Acog starting to wear out

My reflex was just like that. You have to remember its not battery powered, nothing is going to be as bright with no power to it.

Mine is the 4 min dot and is plenty bright. It is even brighter in sunlight as the fiber optic in the front gathers more rays. I also find mine less glaring in dim to no light and it works well with light from my flashlight. i used to get a little bit of wash out from my flashlight if my aimpoint dot was 2 bright in low light. also i have seen many a issue with battery operated sights. With the reflex this is not an issue.

A Trijicon reflex sight is not an ACOG

Also this would probably get better results in the optics forum.

ETA: never mind, I see you posted it there too.

Actually it has been marked by Trijicon as such.  All their optics are considered 'ACOGs' - it's just us AR snobs that tend to only use that term for their magnified optics.

I have a Trij Reflex with the 4 moa amber dot. I really like it. Especially for target shooting. You can see through the dot to the bullseye below.

I also have a Eotech 517 I got recently. Looks like a video game by comparison. All laser sparkly. I can see how that is a great recticule for fast target accquistion. Zombie duty? But I prefer the smaller/lighter Reflex sight with that amber dot for general target practice.
But I thought the Eotech was pretty neat. Takes common AA's. Built like a tank too.

Last time I was over at Antique and Modern Repair in Va. Beach Va., he had a gently used VCG Relex sight with box and paperwork. Had the 12 moa triangle amber recticule. Just $385 with mount. May still be for sale. (Naturally I saw it there the week after I got my Eotech.)

Found a new piece of real estate to put mine on:

....Not that it has anything to do with the OP's question assertion. I just wanted to share
