| Just wondering if anyone has had their gas block shift forward slightly after installing a retrofit kit. I installed mine on a 14.7", mid-length barrel with a Samson Evo. hand guard and have run about 200 rounds through it without an issue, but today I removed the drive rod for cleaning and noticed that the block has moved forward about 1/8". When it was installed, I torqued everything down as much as possible and loctite'd both screws, so I am not quite sure why it would be moving. While I did not bother to measure the shoulder before installing it, the barrel is a hammer-forged FN, so I am sure they keep their tolerances pretty tight. Just wondering if anyone had experienced the same issue, had any suggestions, or thought this was even a big issue (assuming it does not move any more!). Thanks! |

Standard or lite kit?
If a lite kit, did you dimple the barrel under the setscrews? I built an upper with an Osprey kit and purposely used a one piece (not split) clamp on GB with the burliest (#10-32) clamp screws I could find. It has not moved. It is definitely a big deal. If it has moved it will likely continue to move, and will choke the gas sytem. Joe |
| I will definitely have to check the gas port alignment, although I haven't noticed any other issues with the gas system, like a failure to feed or eject. It is a standard kit, so no set screws or dimples. I figured it was not a good sign, but wasn't sure if I should try to run another couple hundred rounds through it to see if it moves further, or just bite the proverbial bullet and re-install it in the correct location. Thank you for your responses, they were a big help. If anyone else has any ideas do not be afraid to chime in! |
