I am breaking my barrel in on my new build, so I have been shooting a few rounds at a time and cleaning. I noticed that when I had the bolt pulled back resting on the bolt stop (in the open chamber position) the operating rod was completely loose. I took out the piston plug and rod. I then noticed that on the operating rod the spring and the cap (?) were compressed. It took a great deal of force and hand tools to remove this compression. This happened three different times with all different ammo and yes the system is ejecting properly at the given four o'clock position.

Does this spring (cap) fit tolerance just take time to break in? I did the second time add a great deal of oil to this location with the same results. Also I am a noob but contemplating the design I don't think this would have any adverse effects if I did just run the gun after this happened but I am not sure? Thanks ahead of time for the help.

I know the system is designed to run without the cap/spring incase they do fail.  But it SHOULD wear to each other and start operating normally.  But I'll let the people with more direct experience answer.

So I'm posting to say that it is designed to run without the cap/spring but they are better off with.
