[ARCHIVED THREAD] - Adcor AR (Page 1 of 2)

| Hi... new member that just got an Adcor BEAR Elite. I have wanted an AR for many years and due to recent events figured that now was the time. I am very pleased with the quality of this rifle. |

Welcome. Pics would be nice if you have any. A little more info on why you like the Adcor AR ( first time to hear of one ), and what are the features of the BEAR model? This would be a good start. Welcome aboard though. You'll like yours I've had mine more than a year now. |

Man good thing I don't own one or anything. I know all about them dude I'm the resident ADCOR advocate on these boards. http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e346/gun_control/SR15%20BEAR%20Elite/DSC01143.jpg We also have an industry section but unfortunately it's not really active and ADCOR themselves hardly ever show up on these boards. Cool! Nice AR you have there. |

Great rifles, but you'll be waiting a long time to get one right now. If you can find one under $2000 jump on it. Very accurate, very reliable, easy to clean. There's a reason the Army is looking at them. -Mike http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v300/Hamfisted/AdcorBearElite033.jpg |

Most people are too brand loyal to try anything else. I view it the same way as the whole COD vs HALO vs XBOX vs PS3 is that people are too poor to get both so they get one and rally behind it to mentally justify their purchase. XBOX Sucks and So does Halo and Balls of Dookie
Haha, you are half right though. Im not brand loyal, except when it comes to video games. I go with whatever suits my needs at the time being. I have wanted an Adcor BEAR since I first held one at AJC here in Houston. Very nice rifles, and I love the concept behind them. Im just too poor to own anything that fancy. So i stick with the tried and true gas system. Also, no piston conversion for the AR10s, and I havent found one that works with a stock A2 front sight base. Other than that, if I had the money, I would definitely own some piston ARs. Just like I would own more HK USPs, and STI 1911s if I had the money. |

YOU TAKE THAT BACK. And buy a BEAR. Never! Its all about Battefield 3 and 4. They have bullet drop HAHA!
And if I had the cash, the BEAR is the first piston AR id get. Unless you wanna trade yours for my AR10? |

I really wanna shoot one though. Prices are souring though, wouldnt mind getting an upper sometime in the future if we still can. |

According to your picture, you do not have $7k in that rifle. Unless you have nightvision. Quoted: Quoted: And if I had the cash, the BEAR is the first piston AR id get. Unless you wanna trade yours for my AR10? Mine has 7 grand dumped into it. How you may ask? Ever build your own Rolex? |

Aside from the fact you failed horribly in trying to quote me There is internal work done to it that you don't see and this included the mags as well as the modifications I did to them. All in all I've dumped about 7k into that project. Regardless it's still in my opinion a top tier and rather expensive rifle. |

So basically you have a rifle with ADCOR barrel, upper receiver (do they make these or use a forged upper from someone else?), bolt carrier, handguard, and piston parts. You hold the ADCOR system in high regard and recommend it to others, but your rifle can't even be called an ADCOR rifle because it is not. You replaced a ton of the functioning parts in the upper. Your rifle is a mutt of what I would call unnecessary high dollar parts that only increase function in theory. That is what I thought, thanks for confirming.

Other people who have shot this rifle all say it blatantly is one of the best AR's they have ever shot. Everything I'm running in this has been tested or ran by member on this board and competitors in real competitions. The operating system is still the same and it still operates the same so it is still an ADCOR. I take it your of a mil spec if it works don't fix it kind of guy. That's fine but I prefer to push the envelope so to say and see if I can make things better or if there is another way of doing things. That's how the industry advances. They make all their uppers and lowers but the barrels come from FN on the elite models and are specially cut for the gas block. |

After the review I read on "the other site" I would touch one of those with a 10 foot stick. So, one person had a bad experience and really wasn't happy with the product and you base a decision not to "touch one with a 10 foot stick" on this? Easily led are we? Try making up your own mind from time to time. |

I can honestly say it's one sweet rifle to shoot. The only major aftermarket items I've replaced so far are the stock (UBR), grip (Ergo), charging handle (BCM Mod 4) and flash suppressor (PWS FSC 556). It functioned perfectly fine without those parts and it was more of a personal choice rather than need to replace. I hold it in high regard and recommend it to others myself. I personally believe it's one of those better kept secrets honestly. Is it as good as a LWRC or LMT? Can't really say since I'm unaware of any head to head tests done between the major piston systems. Is it a weapon I'd recommend to others looking at a piston AR? Absolutely. But being realistic I think the Army trials are a make or break period for them. I don't believe Adcor will continue to dump a bunch of money into a small arms project unless they get a government contract, whether it's the Army Carbine Comp or maybe even a large overseas military contract. Maybe even a large police department, but price is prohibitive since it's a lot cheaper to outfit a department with a standard GI carbine than a BEAR. Hopefully they stay in the game. While the piston AR design isn't necessarily ground breaking, there are several innovative features on the BEAR that would enhance the AR platform overall. Anyway, I've been perfectly happy with mine and would recommend the brand to others. |

So basically you have a rifle with ADCOR barrel, upper receiver (do they make these or use a forged upper from someone else?) The barrel on the Elite is actually an FN barrel. Standard is a Green Mountain barrel. And I could be wrong, but I believe everything else is made in house. You might try asking in the industry forums. |

Wow...after researching the Adcor piston here and on the other forum (M4C) it seems that this rifle is not what it is advertised to be. If one believes what is out on the inter webs, it is a real piece of poop. Yeah, keep telling yourself that.... Maybe it'll make you feel better. Or, you can take the US Army's word, that it's a great rifle. Hmmm, who would I trust ?.... American Rifleman review of the BEAR |

So a guy that spends a good chunk on a rifle has an emotional attachment to it! Shocker.
The fact that the DoD is fielding it means fuck all. In military history we have fielded many weapons that didn't get near frontline service. Sorry but reviews count. The "you don't own one so your opinion of others opinions Arn't valid even if theirs are" argument is weak. I know blackthorn sucks. I've never owned/shot one. Care to argue with me on it? The world works pretty well when people use the expierence and "reviews" of others. I could care less if the owners of adcor are assholes. 30 day satisfaction warrantee that doesn't actually exist. The lip in the magwel? Come on how you gonna justify that? And then they won't fix it and run around dicks akimbo talking about when the next batch comes out and credits. THEY KNOW ITS AN iSSUE and DON'T CARE. The charging handle beats the shit out of the rail. That's kinda shitty. We got a guy with a $7k gun that does its own "thrown down a driveway". I'm the first one to rip on guys complaining about cosmetic scratches n shit but a rifle that has a design flaw that does it for you? Kinda shitty Rails that a Daniel defence vert grip don't fit on. Kinda shitty The rail being blocked by the charging handle is a design flaw. Why have rails if you can't use em. I know rails are total cool points and all but sheesh. I've herd reports that even ladder covers can impede the side charging handle. So chese grater it is. Something similar to a urx 3.1 would be ideal. And if you knew anything about off axis forces on reciprocating pistons youd know a piston ar is a compromised design. In something designed for a piston and its inherent off axis force ala scar, acr, AK? Awesome. In a inline system like the ar? Nah. You can say "I don't get carrier tilt" but I say why is that even a question. It isn't in properly designed systems. (Not piston ARs) Say what you want but I like the modularity of ARs. This thing is pretty much set in stone as far as the front end goes. Kinda shitty if you ask me. |

So a guy that spends a good chunk on a rifle has an emotional attachment to it! Shocker. Wrong I support my purchase choice but anyways. The fact that the DoD is fielding it means fuck all. In military history we have fielded many weapons that didn't get near frontline service. No but you are completely failing to look at any merit the rifle has. So far the only thing I was able to deduce from your post was negativity. Seriously go try one out if your thought is so bad and prove it. The negative reviews I've seen are few and far between. I haven't had any problems. I've run into ADCOR owners who haven't either and are very happy with their rifles. There is a few in here so please don't just take my word for it. You can't say your damn opinion is a review because it's not. I don't see other people reviewing products on this site that they don't own. Actually I have but it brings major discredit upon them once discovered. Blackthorn has been acknowledged to suck because it's been reviewed by people who own their products to know they suck. Hell even then there was a dude on here who bought a blackthorn rifle and fixed it up and it ran just fine. If your getting into a damn hobby that involves mechanical skills why don't you bother to learn how to fix and work on your own weapons instead of being lazy all the time and taking it to a gunsmith? Overall is what matters and so far overall most BEAR owners are pretty fucking happy about their purchase choice dude. Also to mention I did read that one on M4C. I could care less if the owners of adcor are assholes. 30 day satisfaction warrantee that doesn't actually exist. Dude I think this is a classic case of protectionism. Any and all problems I've had I've been able to get fixed when I contacted them through the phones. Do me a favor please read the product manual on page 26 for warranty information ADCOR BEAR manual. There is also a nice troubleshooting page in there. The lip in the magwel? Come on how you gonna justify that? And then they won't fix it and run around dicks akimbo talking about when the next batch comes out and credits. THEY KNOW ITS AN iSSUE and DON'T CARE. That guys could have gotten his lower replace. I believe he was told to contact them I don't know if he did or not. I've even managed to get a hold of ADCOR through facebook. FUCKING FACEBOOK. If you got a problem get it fixed but troubleshoot that shit on your end to make sure your not the one that's possibly fucked up. A company turns out a lemon every once and a while it happens but don't say all their products are like that because of just one experience. How can you say they don't care dude. Sounds to me like your slandering them. The charging handle beats the shit out of the rail. That's kinda shitty. We got a guy with a $7k gun that does its own "thrown down a driveway". I'm the first one to rip on guys complaining about cosmetic scratches n shit but a rifle that has a design flaw that does it for you? Kinda shitty My charging handle still works just fine after owning it for over a year with aluminum chipped off. It still works. How are you going to discredit that? I haven't thrown shit down the driveway and inf fact I go out of my way to take care of my rifle and use it because I did spend that much. Who the fuck are you to tell me that I shouldn't be happy with my rifle so long as it works? Also the charging handle is something they have redesigned during the IC competition so we will see if they fixed it once the new design hits the civilian market. Rails that a Daniel defence vert grip don't fit on. Kinda shitty Opinion. Don't like it don't buy it. That's the amazing thing about capitalism there is something for everyone. The rail being blocked by the charging handle is a design flaw. Why have rails if you can't use em. I know rails are total cool points and all but sheesh. I've herd reports that even ladder covers can impede the side charging handle. So chese grater it is. Something similar to a urx 3.1 would be ideal. The urx 3 is an opinion. It is what would be ideal for you. Not someone else. It's an opinion. I and others have shown you can work around the charging handle blocking the rail. Here's an idea that might even blow your mind: you can remove the forward charging handle! That's right! If it's getting in the way get rid of it! Then you have your regular style AR with a quad rail and you can completely forget about that cosmetic damage to the rail because again after over a year of owning mine it still works. (Not piston ARs) So wait your telling me someone who has been on this site as long as I have and who has owned piston guns as long as I've owned AR's who is also in the military and shoot's DI rifles that your suggesting I don't know what I'm talking about? It shouldn't be a question if its not an issue. Almost every single manufacturer of piston AR's has addressed this issue. So why is it still even being brought up if it's not an issue anymore? You want to tell people who have had engineering degrees and years of experience in the industry they don't know what they are doing or talking about when they build a rifle and some how your better qualified? Get your head out of 2005 and into 2013 where pistons don't have carrier tilt issues. Say what you want but I like the modularity of ARs. This thing is pretty much set in stone as far as the front end goes. Kinda shitty if you ask me. If you love modularity then why does this not fall in line with that concept? A weapons platform that you can do ANYTHING to? Sure you can't swap out the quad rail system but if you want a BEAR that much why not try to drop an idea in with ADCOR and see if they will bite? I've asked them about various different calibers and so far they have confirmed or denied whatever I asked them. They are pretty open about providing information on their product line. Getting back to the capitalism thing if the BEAR does not meet your needs then buy something else. I get it the rifle isn't for everyone I got it but that's you not me or other people. |

I do not own an ADCOR, but I will say the only negative review I have read was from the guy who was just quoted. I can google blackthorne and have pages and pages of negative reviews...ADCOR? Not so much. That can either mean they are great, or jut not out there in any significant number or owned by people who shoot alot...ill reserve my judgement on such matters.
The rifle will either prove its self or fail, well know eventually but one bad review does mot mean a bad gun. If that was the case no good guns exist, for i can google a bad review on any gun out there. |

From what I can tell, just the one and then the troll on here that wasn't happy unless his rifle was gold plated and wiped his ass. Good reviews? Ask most other owners. Try looking in the Adcor forum for example. Lip on the mag well. Funny, mine has the same thing. And doesn't scratch up mags. Doesn't impede feeding. Doesn't cause them not to drop free. Is it as pronounced as the other guys? Can't tell from photos, but looks to be the same. And something they corrected in later batches. Funny how that works, inform a manufacturer of a defect and they fix it. And offered to give him credit on a fixed one when they came off the production line. Charging handle issue...non issue. Cosmetic and doesn't impede the function of the rifle. You even said yourself you are the first to slam anyone complaining about cosmetic blemishes. Have you ever handled one yourself to see or do you normally just call something a "design flaw" that you've never seen with your own eyes? Funny, I've never had any problems with any other vert grips on mine. Haven't tried the DD one because i tossed it in a drawer when I got it. Maybe I will just to have something to complain about. Seriously pal, maybe you could hold your comments on how "shitty" a system it is until you've actually fondled one yourself. Because your opinion based on reading a single review from another guy who was fairly unbiased and said good things where they were due? Kinda shitty if you ask me. |

If anyone would like to hear the story, let me know. I personally haven't met anyone with the DI version so I wouldn't mind hearing it. How does it run? Pics? |

Yes, I'm a procrastinator from time to all the time. Others just call it dumb.

I have an Adcor Bear Elite, and I have been very happy with it.
My only complaint is that when you use the forward charging handle, it snaps back against the forward rail and has rubbed the finish off of the rail where it contacts. This is really nothing more than a cosmetic issue, but something they should fix at some point. I'm not surprised at this issue since the forward charging handle is a new design element. The gun has performed flawlessly. It's accurate, and I have about 2,000 rounds through it and have yet to have any kind of malfunction. I've had more malfunctions with my Glock 17 than I've had with this gun (my Glock is now up to 2 malfunctions). Adcor customer service also hooked me up for free with a gas regulator plug designed for shooting with a silencer. Their customer service has been very helpful and a pleasure to work with. I've been shooting a lot silenced lately, and everything works perfectly. I think there are some really good options out there if you're in the market for an AR-15. I've been very happy with my Adcor Bear and I wouldn't hesitate to buy another, so if you're interested in the Adcor, I'd go for it. |

In my opinion it's worth the price of admission. Right now...not so much. The GI and piston model upper only are going for a pretty penny. This is a "want" as opposed to a "need." Have a BCM lower/lightweight upper I use for hunting and was looking at a spare Gov profile upper for the whole SHTF route. But honestly, priorities changed and all. But still halfheartedly looking at it anyway. I love my GP BEAR, just trying to figure out if the Elite GI is worth the additional money over and beyond a standard BCM GI. Of course, with neither being available lol |

Wow...after researching the Adcor piston here and on the other forum (M4C) it seems that this rifle is not what it is advertised to be. If one believes what is out on the inter webs, it is a real piece of poop. I'd like to know more of what you discovered. Any links for anyone on any side of this debate? I'd also like to know if an upper works with a non-adcor lower. ..... ''' |
