High all. I have a DPMS LR260. I want to add a HBRMS Harris Bipod 6" to 9" to the FF handguard. Easy enough since it has the sling swivel stud on the end of the handguard.
But I also want to be able to rotate and Harris offers the Rota-Pod, Pod, that the bipod attaches to. Problem is it attaches to a Picatinny rail, which I do not have.

So how can I add a rail under my FF handguard. My handguard is like the one in this picture, Upper picture

As  you can see it is smooth with no holes for mounting things to.  I appreciate your help and insight.

See this link and scroll down a bit - the rails for the SS-Series handguards will fit the curvature of your free float tube. You'd have to drill mounting holes of course, but the 4.1" version should be about right:

Here you go:

There are several similar products that convert a sling stud to a rail.

Cheaper option

Thanks for the ideas.  I searched and found that blackhawk actually has one and on amazon it got 4.5 stars rating and is $21.
Sems knowing the  words to accurately describe what it is you want helps! Lol

I found two others. Sems easier and same price as a screw/bolt on rail.

Thanks all.

In looking at this further weaver also makes one.

I am now reconsidering the harris bipod though. To make it do what i want (tilt and swivel) ii need the brms model bipod, rota-pod and a pod-loc. All of this with the adapter would be $226 without shipping. This set up would also have more pieces to the system, stand off the handguard more and have seperate adjustment for tension for tilt and swivel.

The other option would be a Atlas 170-s and would do everything the other setup would do but in one piece and do things it can not do for $80 more.  May just go that direction instead. Lots of positive reviews on the atlas bipods!

Thanks for helping me think this out!

Serious question, do you NEED the extra features?
I've got a plain' ol' adjustable Harris on my target  .308 AR.  The only adjustments are the individual leg lengths.
With an semi-auto, it's much more critical to "load" the bipod than with a bolt gun for consistency, and if your pod can flex every which way, that might make it a bit harder.

Very fair question.

In looking at taking shots from various surfaces I thought the adjustability would allow for dealing with this.
My thinking was when firing from the bipod the positioning the bipod would be less dictated by aiming the weapon and more by finding solid footing.

I could be totally off base here.  I appreciate the insight of those with more experience for sure.

Thanks.

Update, for anyone else looking at doing this.

Tangodown and blackhawk do not work on ar platforms.  Once installed they do not tighten doen because of the rounded shape of the round handguard.

Looks like either i change the handguard or install the ss mentioned in the thread that will require removing the handguard and drilling.
Last option is going to be the most cost effective option.
