I want to add a set of handguards so I can mount a tac light. Looks like a lot of people prefer the one piece free-floated ones, but I am thinking about a two piece. My thinking is, for one it is easy to install and second, if something were to happen to my gas tube I could replace it a lot quicker since I lack the action block and vice needed to change bbl's. Thoughts? |

In the best of ARFcom traditions get both. Get a FF 2 piece system like a Troy or Sampson (last time I bought one they were around $250). Otherwise there are a bunch of decent 2 piece non-FF systems out there, Sampson just introduced a non-FF 2 peice system that looks like it's the 'best' of the bunch - proper rails, one of the lighter units, and under $200. |

These are the MI rails installed, along with the ladder rail guards. It took about 5 minutes to install, and is pretty nice. http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c131/Gmountain/3013.jpg http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c131/Gmountain/3019.jpg |
For just holding a flashlight, those would be fine... |

I have the MI 2 piece free-float, and am quite happy with it. However, let me lead you down tha path I took: I wanted a set of fore-end rails, so started thinking of what to buy. The MI 2 piece free-float had just become available, so I thought, well, if I am going to replace the handguards, I may as well get the free-float version and get that benefit too. The MI looks good because its easy to fit (it is). So I got my MI kit. Then thought: why ruin a perfectly good delata ring/spring, its easy enough to whip the barrel off... 5 minutes later, the barrel is off. Then I look at the front "holder" for the handguards up against the FSB and thing "that really doesn't need to be there - serves no purpose - looks a bit odd" Another 5 minutes later the FSB and "holder" (what is that thing called...?) is off. At this point, I realise that I may as well have bought a one-piece free-float tube ! Anyway, its still a good handguard ! |
I gave up getting my fobus to hold my light from moving and falling out..... short of gluing it in place. My knights light holder works great. |
While I know what you are talking about, I've had pretty good luck. Bought these awhile ago when there were less options on the market |
