Alcon,
This is a cross post first and foremost from the Gunsmithing forum. I am planning sometime in the near future of turning a Shilen 308 blank for my LR308. I am planning on a heavy profile and want to have an adjustable gas block for it to work with eventually a suppressor. I know I can easily buy one, however, I want to see if I can make one. Am I correct in assuming that if I got a low pro gas block, and drilled and tapped a hole from the front face to the vertical gas port, and installed a set screw, that would work the same? If that doesn't make sense, please let me know and I'll try and come up with a working drawing. Thanks in advance, Zach |

Yes. In a nut-shell that would work (assuming you are not talking about drilling into the end of the gas tube), the set screw would open/close on the gas flow from the
bore to the tube. Lot of trial and error unless you have info from known good adjustable gas blocks. You would ideally need a long set screw with a hardened steel (non-threaded) tip that would screw into the gas stream. ====\\\\\\\\[] <--like this |

Can't you purchase an adjustable gas block? Of course I could, but where's the fun in that? Plus I'd rather have something with a knurled knob for adjustment rather than requiring a allen key. Quoted:

Thanks. |
