| How would I go about adjusting the ejection of my brass? It's a BM DCM and to shot it at a high power match it will be ejecting in front of the shooter two over from me when shooting off-hand. A case deflector dents the mouth nasty, so don't want to go that direction. |

Clipping the ejector spring will cause the ammo to be ejected/dribbled out forward. Take your time tuning such (few coils at a time), since if you go over board, you will end up with the brass being thrown into the front of the ejection port (causes a nasty jam). |

To add to Dano's post............. www.armalite.com/images/Tech%20Notes/Tech%20Note%2034,%20Adjusting%20the%20Ejection%20Pattern%20of%20the%20AR-10%20….pdf |

I too would like to adjust the ejection on my match rifle so that it will eject like my A2 upper. The A2 ejects at about 5:00 to 5:30 without hitting the deflector. I do not wind up with any dents in the cases with it. Other shooters are not affected by my brass. But the match rifle throws case at about 2:30 to 3:30 depending on load. I added some braided dacron fishing line to the deflector to stop the dents, but the brass will still end up nearly hitting (if not hitting him or her) the competitor to my right. The braid does reduce the distance the cases fly, but not as much as I would like. It would seem to me that on my A2 the ejector plunger spring is stronger and throws the cases clear of the deflector. Or, it might be a function of the extractor. But, I'm not sure which. BTW, the buffer assembly is the same; i.e., the same lower. |
Dano, I compared the ejector spring to a std spring. Looks like BM trims two coils off for there DCM rifles (.863 compared to .922). Acording to the link from QUIB, this should throw it to the rear farther. But, you indicate it will eject front. What am I missing? Right now I an ejecting at 2:00 to 8' away. Or, were you saying if I go to the extreme with trimming they will dribble to the front and jamb? dmince |

Out of the box my match rifle ejected at several feet away 4:30-5:00, but after trimming 2 coils off the ejector spring my brass ends up 2-3' away at 1:00. I've never had a FTE since with over 15,000 rounds through the rifle. Trimming much further would evenytally lead to problems since at some point the ejection would be too weak to reliably clear the port. What I normally do when setting up a new bolt is to trim until the ejector is barely pushed flush with the locking lugs; that's usually removing 2 coils. I used to glue a bit of foam rubber to the face of the deflector to eliminate denting the middle of the case, but it's no longer needed with the shortened spring; ther are no marks on the case mouth or body. |
Thanks for clearing that up for me. So it's acually throwing it front instead of flipping it to the rear. dmince |
