Ok so new here and new AR owner. I have learned a lot already and have been reading as much as I can. The other day someone suggested I buy a different complete upper to go on my Anderson lower. Currently, I have a Wilson SS bull barrel and a Harris bipod, which I love, but of course the gun is very front heavy. So my thought was I could buy a "light" complete upper to change back and forth on my lower for different kinds of shooting. Bull barrel and bipod for range/sniper long range type shooting, and the light weight upper for moving and shooting close range.

Sooooo......any suggestions on a good quality LIGHT WEIGHT complete upper?

I am overwhelmed with all the choices out there and all the information. Just wondering if someone will throw out a good answer. Looks like I could read for the next six months and still not know a decent upper to buy.

Just something light and easy to handle for moving and shooting fun.

Thanks!

I would suggest a Palmetto State Armory one. They have good products and great prices. I actually know a guy that has about three  complete lightweight uppers for sale on here. If your interested shoot me an IM and ill forward you the link to his thread on EE

Budget is $450-750
My mission is to have a very light weight alternative to the heavy barrel and bipod set up I have now so that I can move and shoot for fun at close range.
My mechanical ability is better than average. I have owned a heating and air conditioning business for over twenty years and have worked on cars for years. I know my way around tools and the concepts. So I would say "fair".

You can pick this up with a BCM charging handle and BCG, add a magpul rear BUIS and hand guard and stay under $750 while getting a top quality upper

PSA on the lower end of your budget or BCM or Spike's Tactical on the higher end of your budget. Then, once you have a second complete upper, you'll start looking at stripped lowers and parts kits. Before you know it, a second AR is born.

Without fail I always recommend building to all but the most simple of simpletons.  It can be the most expensive or the least expensive option.  I haven't bought anything that was complete to begin with.  The ease with which the platform goes together makes it an obvious choice to build systems for.  This gives you the option of other calibers, differing barrel lengths, and a variety of handguards, all for you to choose, not to have them chosen for you.  You really only need 1 special tool, available at just about any of the online players and most gun shows for $20ish.  An upper with dust cover and FA will set you back around $120, barrel nut, and gas tube $30ish, gas block $20-$60 or so, barrel $100 to $500, and handguard $30-$300.  If you go all basic you can do it for $350 or so, including the tool.  Just have to do your due diligence, look around and find what you like, then spend the 30 min or so it will take to assemble.
