Thinking of building my first AR. Probably in 300 BO. I've been looking around a lot at uppers and lowers and the price and build quality (at least look and feel) seem all over the place. I found an Anderson lower on sale for $49 but feels kind of rough. I'm sure it works, but wasn't overly impressed.

The Aero Precision upper/lower sets look nice and are not overly expensive. What are they like in person?

Any thoughts on their enhanced upper with the hand guard mounting "nut" built in? Seems like it would be more solid, but are you stuck with proprietary hand guards?

Also curious about the PSA stuff. Are their blemished lower kits a good compromise? For example, http://palmettostatearmory.com/psa-ar-15-complete-blem-lower-magpul-moe-edition-black-no-magazine.html

Thanks.

I didn't buy a matched Aero Precision upper/lower, but I have an Aero Precision upper and lower bought separately, and they look great, and function fine (as far as receivers function, lol).

I would not hesitate to buy another AP upper/lower, and in fact, am considering an all FDE Aero build next.

I bought my Aero lower direct from them and the M4E1 upper and handguard combo on sale from Granite Mountain. The Gen 2 will save you a few bucks on a QD mount since it's built it. The BAR style barrel nut is also used with the Seekins handguard, but why not just stick with Aero? I went with a 12" handguard on a 16" Faxon GUNNER barrel with their low profile gas block.

All of the Aero stuff is well built and great quality.

I cannot speak for the lowers but I have two M4E1 uppers and they are superb. Very tight fitment on Seekins and Black Rain lowers, ZERO slop.

Have considered doing another build on an Aero FDE set as well. I now see what everyone else is on about with their quality.

Otherwise I would recommend Spikes lowers. I have done 11 builds with Spikes, only one had an issue and that was missing parkerization in the buffer detent hole. No fitment issues with Spikes and very cost effective.

I have a bunch of aero receivers and all have been great. My precision spr uses a m4e1 upper with built in barrel nut on a stag lower. There is zero slop.

No complaints from my Aero upper and lower.  Finish is smooth and consistent.  Fit is excellent.
My absolute favorites are from another Washington manufacturer, MEGA.  But Aero is a close second and more affordable.

Can you elaborate on this for me?  I've looked at a few Anderson lowers here locally and they seemed very nicely finished, but maybe you saw something I missed.

Thanks for the replies. I'm leaning toward the AP, but for the price I'm kind of curious about the PSA blems.

It's probably more a comparison to billet lowers. The Anderson just seemed kind of rough. Not overly. More utilitarian I guess. Kind of like a chalkboard. Others I've looked at seemed more smooth and polished but usually cost more as well. I didn't see anything to suggest it was poorly finished like missed spots.

The below build is an Aero FDE Upper and Lower. Not really matched set but I bought them at the same time on sale from Aeros website. Fit and finish were great.

my first build with a AeroPrecision set, built during the scarce of parts a few years back, I got the lower direct from AeroPrecision and the upper from gunbroker:

Its not normally something someone would notice, but once you have held a Mega or Aero...you can see and feel it.
Maybe its the beyond mil spec that stands out.
You will be happy with Aero.
If anyone has a pic of the mag well on a Aero, I would love to see it.

I am not a fan of PSA lowers. I have 2 PSA builds and their upper receiver to lower receiver fit is pure slop. I didn't buy any blems. If the lowers had a adjustment screw for fit I would feel different. I end up sacrificing a foam ear plug and chopping it up for each psa build. I know it's trivial to some. But I absolutely can't handle receiver slop.

Very nice. Thanks for sharing. Any chance you some close up pics of the upper/lower?

Thanks. I'm really liking these. What trigger is that? Part of a kit or a drop in?

http://www.megaarms.com/ar-15/accessories-2/trigger/

its a Mega Tactical trigger, it uses standard disconnector and hammer [your choice, I ordered a couple nickel boron disconnectors/hammers to build my new ones with] I waited forever and bought two when they finally came back in stock.........then recently started building a few more AR's and looked again, and they are backordered again.
I emailed Mega, they stated go ahead and backorder, they would be shipping by end of 2016, however so far they have not sent any out, I emailed again, they stated their priorities were to the bigger items, such as the billet receiver sets so I am still waiting, going to send the two off for nickel boron coating when I get them.
