I've wanted one for ears. It looks like I will have a bit of extra money coming in the next month or so. I would prefer 4x and I like the triangle pointer.
I'm looking at TA31A for about $900. is that a good model or should I be looking for something else? |

The more expensive models have a mini red dot for backup/CQB, I have it on all of my ACOGs, since I use the mini red dots as backup sights, I've never used them yet (my ACOGs have never failed yet).
Shop around on EE, you'll likely find a TA31 series for less than $900. |

A lit reticle that's visible in day light helps the user pick up the reticle faster, it's not necessary for BAC to work, it makes it easier to accomplish. An ACOG with a fiber optics tube can always have its fiber optics tube masked and turned into a black reticle, an ACOG like the TA01 series has no way of lighting up the reticle. If you want your dream ACOG and want a TA31 series, then you should get it. I still have my TA01NSN, but it's not seen action since 2002

I put my 4X32 ACOGs on carbines and 20" rifles (when I used to have 20" rifles), the short eye relief of the 4x32 ACOG (1.5") isn't friendly on a rifle with an A2 stock, but there are mounts for it to mitigate that.
On a carbine with a retractable stock, I leave the stock completely collapsed. With body armor, it's the best position for me. I used to have the stock on its second position (first position being completely collapsed), somewhere along the line I just kept it collapsed all the time, now I don't have to remember to extend the stock at all |
| Like Duffy, I own several ACOG's including a few TA31 series. The TA31H with horse shoe reticle has become my favorite!!!! I tend to like it better than the " Donut of Death" or chevron reticle as it doesn't cover as much of the target and has a small but precise center aiming dot. The reticles in the TA31 series are also abit larger and easier to pickup compared to other ACOG series. |
