My buddy is looking to purchase an affordable ($175 or less) scope for target shooting with his AR15. Ranges are out 250 yards and more than that when he travels upstate.

He was looking at the Primary Arms 4x16 scope. He also saw some marked down BSA and Vortex scopes on SWFA. Any advice would be a big help, thanks.

Not sure how much magnification you need, but theres the Weaver V3 1-3x, and SWFA has a sale on the Vortex 2-7x.

He was looking for something 12x or more I think.

I think about the best deal going nowadays are Weavers 40/44 series 6.5-20x44. I have a couple for hunting groundhogs. The Duplex is a bit to heavy for real precision paper work. Great on groundhogs at 300.

Nice medium height target turrets with caps. I gave $171.00 + Shipping for mine.

The Primary Arms is a good choice in a low cost 30mm tube scope with that magnification. Great company too. Next step up would be a SWFA Super Sniper.

The Mueller APT is perfect for his magnification preference and price range. it's 4.5-14x40, and around $170. I have 2 and they are excellent scopes for the money.
