When shopping I want to see the total cost BEFORE I give up my info.

Or at least tell us what the discount is............ Unless you goal is just to harvest E-mail addresses.

Yes you can. You are just not putting enough effort into tweaking your eCommerce solution. It is very discouraging to the end-user to have to jump through a bunch of hoops just to see the savings they could realize. That said, most AR related eCommerce sites are extremely lacking and I find that odd b/c it has incredible potential as a revenue stream. If you are hungry enough for e-sales, you'll figure out how to improve the end-user experience. If not, others will and you'll loose those customers.
