This one cuts 2 ways, Back in Jan I was going to change out my Aimpoint Micro KZ mount for a Larue Tactical 660. I started taking the mounting screws from the bottom of the micro and i found that the screws had stripped out of sight. I ran it buy my armorer and he said its really simple the sight is aluminum and the screws are steel. Thats never a good combination. I called Aimpoint and on Feb 2 sent in the sight to warranty for them to look at it. About a month passed and I called in to check. It seems Aimpoint had changed some office positions and the new guy in warranty was a bit behind but he told me to call back in a few days and he would get me up to speed on where Aimpoint was on deciding to repair replace or deny the claim. From about Feb 20th until today I have called and emailed with no reply from Aimpoint, and i must say that I was becoming a bit upset about it. Today after lunch a small box was left at the front door by UPS. Inside was a new Micro with a post it that said replaced.
Although they never answered an email or phone call for 2 months they came through with a new sight. Great they came through but their communication needs some work |
I've read several topics (at least) about stripped threads It has always made me wonder if people were over-tightening their screws. I do not own a micro, but I always thought that I would use blue locktite and snug the screws without cranking them a whole lot.
Do you think that you 'may' have over-tightened them or do you think that their threads are just too fine or something like that and stripped due to normal use? |
| I tightened them until they were snug and never thought about it. Theres no doubt that tightening a steel screw into an aluminum housing will definitely strip out the housing. In this last mount I made sure I delicately made them barely snug and used the blue tube included from Larue. I wish they included a torque value for the housing and I would have used my driver for it. |
