I'm reading the destructions for my Aimpoint CompM4 and find nothing about optimal placement.
Can you guys please offer your thoughts on the best placement? I have a flat top. the rearmost notch is taken by a folding site, but everything forward to the end of the receiver is open. I know that iron sights want to be as far apart as possible, but I have no clue with a dot device. Where and why? |

I have always "felt" that the further forward that the red dot is mouted the quicker the time on target would be. However, I now run my sight further back on my upper receiver (a little behind the ejection port) as the further back you can get it the better the balance of the weapon in my opinion.
I have seen some run their sights out on the railed handguards. Heck, look at when the origional m2's came out and A2 uppers were the norm, the common A2 mount they sold put the sight forward over the handguards. As the other guy said though - its really about what you prefer. |
