For an Aimpoint mount on a flattop AR - what is the advantage/disadvange of the straight upright mount vs the cantilever mount?  Is it just asthetics or is there a design purpose between the two?

The cantilever is better is you need the room behind the optic, like for night vision or a magnifier. Otherwise the straight mount is fine.

Larue makes the best mounts and they have package deals too.

The cantilever would be the most versatile. Ya never know what you may do choose to do in the future.

Even though I have not decided on whether or not I want a magnifier, I bought the cantilever mount so that I could without having to buy a new mount.
