Quick question for guys in the know.
If I use the older style Aimpoint "slant top" QRP base on my Aimpoint Pro without the spacer on my 20"/A2 stock rifle will there be a lower 1/3 sight picture on the FSB, or do I need the spacer? I'm putting together a "loose clone" M16a4 inspired (using a Stag Lower/Del-Ton 20" Gov't upper & KAC RAS). I say loose because of the optic, 1/9 twist, A1 pistol grip(I hate that A2 finger nub) and semi-only. My last issue gun was a Hydramatic M16A1. I'm 54 now and iron sights ain't happenin' anymore lol. Thanks in advance. |

Using the spacer will get you an "absolute co-witness" height. It is about 1/8" higher than the irons but isn't quite lower 1/3. So, if I'm looking for a 1/3 sight picture I should use the riser/spacer? Because without it sounds like it will be almost touching the FSB, no? |

Without the spacer will be too low. That was originally for the goose neck mount that attached to the carry handle. It could work if you had a riser or rail that went over the rear of the receiver.
With the spacer the FSB will be in the sight picture, but you can look through it. The dot, while in the center of the optic, will be 1/8" over the front sight post. This will not work well with a fixed rear BUIS. This is the setup the US Army has used for 15 years. |

^Man, that was fast. Thanks for clarifying, I understand now. Just waiting for my Aimpoint to get here. I hope it doesn't have a "sperm tail" when I look though it like my RX34 does (that's why I'm selling it). I read that a smaller MOA dot is better for an astigmatism. If not, I'll have to go to Plan B (whatever the hell that is lol).
Thanks again brother.. |
