Ive always used absolute cowitness mounts. Thinking of trying a little higher lower 1/3 mount.   What do you guys use and prefer better??

Sorry if I was not really specific.    I am good on brands.  I own LT's and have had others.

I was more wanting opinions on absolute vs. lower 1/3.    Have had all absolute.  Thinking about lower 1/3.

This is a personal preference issue, only you can decide what works best for you. Aimpoint sells half spacers and full spacers which will allow you to try different heights with their factory base.

Personally I prefer absolute co-witness because my cheek weld on the stock never changes when using irons vs. the red dot. I have one rifle set up with lower 1/3 and it works just as well. I think SCOCOM went with lower 1/3 because they don't want soldiers wasting time trying to pick the dot up or the front sight post up when they need to be fast to the target. The lower 1/3 keeps them on completely different sight plains.

I find that Aimpoint's factory base works fine for me so I haven't felt the need to upgrade to Larue, Wilcox, ADM etc. Those mounts looks nicer, but aren't any better for my purposes.

Of my AR's...

If it has an A2 type front sight, I'd go for lower 1/3. If it has front and rear, I use absolute.

Lower 1/3 exists only to clear the front sight more, giving a better FOV. You could also use it if you have issues getting your head into the gun enough for a good sight picture. Like cross eye dominant or something.

No if both sights fold, I see no reason to be using two different sight heights. It'll just make it different between using irons and the optic. Not a big deal, but can slow you down.

I also prefer a slightly lower profile of the gun itself. It all helps.

Thanks guys.    I appreciate the input.   It's a gun with a fsp rail.   Think I'm gonna try a lower 1/3.
