What does that mean?

I was just wondering since on the EE, someone posted "no fakes, real aimpoint"

There was a batch of fake aimpoints marked Aimpoint but they all had the same serial number. You can't trust the markings.

Real Aimpoints do not have the BRIGHT WHITE LETTERING.

Aimpoint is written in non-reflective gray lettering.

Newer real ones actually have the "Aimpoint" engraved or laser etched into the body of the optic...

1337 tactical sells repro stuff.  No real Aimpoints that I'm aware of come from there.

Also, what did you pay?  That might lead you to an answer as well.

+1 I've seen these too.

But other airsoft replicas do not have the markings. I also noticed that on a replica, the on / off and brightness adjustment dials will go all the way around. You can twist it full circle from off to on to different brightness levels then back to off again.

Real Aimpoints don't do that.

not only appearence but the cap to turn it on will be really mushy feeling. but sometimes from pictures its hard to tell. my aimpoint looks like the one pictured above. no bright white lettering here.

By the way, anyone ever put the fake one through its paces? I just don't see it holding up to a lot of abuse...or water,

The one I have in the photo comparison above was purchased for my 15 year old son. It was mounted on his AR when he was training with the M261 installed. I never put this thing through any kind of torture tests per say, but on the AR shooting .22’s it held up just fine.

I have not remounted it since swapping the M261 for a standard bolt. I will admit that the clone did very well in my parallax tests I performed. At 25m’s putting the dot in all four quadrants of the FOV there was no parallax to be noted.

Again, this was purchased for a kid as an introduction to red dot optics and will NEVER see duty in a home defense or SHTF situation. I asked my son the other day if he wanted to re-mount the clone. He declined stating he likes iron sights better.
