I can not wait. Some of you might remember my barrel problem I have had with my XM177E2 clone... Well, I am about to get the barrel back after all this time. It has been real close to a year and I can not wait to shoot it. I will get some photos of the homecoming as soon as it arrives. I sure have missed this rifle.

So what was the problem with the barrel before?

That looks real nice! Bet it'll look even nicer when it gets back.

What work did you have done?

Well, the barrel was cut a little short. Not for my taste but for the Govt's taste...

DM1975, can I ask why it took so long to get your barrel back? I think the "old picture" looks great. how much too short was your barrel? Looks like you've got a nice collection of uniforms started there but, I don't see any woodland camo in there.

Thanks. I got plenty of woodland, and ERDL, and advisor camo, and OG's, and helmets and well.... you get the picture. I just dont have alot of dummies to put them all on. There are alot of reasons it took so long to get the barrel done. One thing was me... I was way too busy at my job to get the barrel out. Then Bushmaster was out of barrels..... then on and on. One thing after the other. It was less than a quarter inch too short. Not much but I did not want to take any chances.

When I get the XM back up and running I will do a trio of my Vietnam retro rigs, including an advisor setup, a SOG setup, and a late war setup. Might be a couple weeks before I can get it it tho.

Due to the issues at hand I will refrain from saying who it was. I have kept this position from the start and will not change my mind on it. Everyone is subject to mistakes, no one is exempt. The important thing was that it got taken care of.

Great Pics DM!!!

I too had a barrel that was "sub-standard"
in the way it was modified for an XM177E2 Clone.
guilty party not to be named....

I then hired Randall Rausch to fix the problem,
and the barrel wasn't able to be saved for the XM...

So... I had Randall do 3 Non NFA/Perm Weld XM177E2
Barrel Clones, and with my NoDak Spud A1 Lowers on
their way to US Anodizing, I'll be in Retro-heaven in a few
long weeks...  Pics to come

Long live we Vietnam Era retro junkies!

Any good sources for some ERDL DM...mine are looking a little worse for the wear after all of these years. At least I can fit in them again though...

Still got some, od's, some advisor tigers, my old ARVN pack (which I love), beau coup web gear, a couple of steel pots with correct era covers, and a few other odds and ends. My brother in law got so maudlin one night after seeing some of my stuff that I ended up giving him a set of OD's with his own name tape and a US ARMY tape on it along with a boonie hat festooned with grenade pins. You'd have though I'd given him his virginity back...such is the effect even all these years have passed.

KBL you can get slant pocket ERDL off of Ebay every once in a while for a decent price. That is about the only place I see it besides for the militaria shows. If I had a set in slant pocket available right now I would make you a deal on em but I am short on that. I have the straight pocket ERDL right now and that is it.

Could you possibly take a photo of the ruck for me sometime? Is it an X frame? I just picked up an NVA ruck the other day. You ever decide to get rid of another original boonie or any of that gear drop me a line, I am always looking to expand the collection.

Yes, the ARVN pack is an X-frame. I don't have a picture of mine handy, but this is exactly the one I own:
www.vietnamgear.com/kit.aspx?kit=120

I've only got two ERDL boonies left, one that's getting pretty tattered around the edges, and one that's still in excellent shape. I also have one pair of VG ERDL trousers that I used to wear hunting, but I've now relegated to the collection. My remaining slant pocket jacket/blouse is in the pattern that I believe came right after the ERDL. It looks similar, but has more loam color to it. The ERDL is definitely a green dominant pattern.

I do check Ebay all the time for ERDL stuff. It's not easy getting it now, especially at a reasonable price. Maybe someday in my travels I'll luck upon an old type surplus store that has bins of cammies where I might find some. Even the surplus places that were once like this seem to be trending more towards newer stuff (and knock-off stuff).

If I happen to luck upon something good I'll let you know. What size do you wear in a boonie, trouser, and jacket?

OK, the barrel is in the mail. Hopefuly they are quick at the P.O. and get it to me by Saturday. I can not wait to get it on and get out to the range. I just hope everything is accurate on it.
