I was looking for a local type III anodizer and found one but they said I have to have a serial number on the finished lower in order to anodize. Is this a law or are there companies out there that can anodize type III for me? If I have a company engrave a serial, does it have to be while the lower is an 80%? Can the serial I put on my 80% build be under the pistol grip?

Thanks

You can pretty much put a serial number anywhere that it will fit as long as it meets the published requirement by the BATF, I have seen them engraved on the inside of the trigger guard.  Not on the part that is removable.  Someone posted a picture a couple of months ago.

Any company that does anodizing can work on an 80% lower as it is not a gun, at this point it is a paperweight.  If it is a finished lower then the rules are different.

They just don't like to log unserialized guns into their book.  Their shop, their rules.  Not Federal law.
