I like it. The quality is high and the price is hard to beat. Didn't run into any issues, with either the upper or lower. True test is range time. Hopefully this weekend.

What are you r though on the aero m5 receiver set. Don't have the funds for a complete build yet but considering throwing a m5 receiver set in the safe. Thanks... nice build btw! |

Slowly getting a few things sorted with the build after a few range trips. I had a possible short stroke issue. Looked at the KISS causes first. Replaced the factory installed spring on the Silent Captured Spring, with the heaviest from the available spring kit. Resolved the issue.
When the above pic was taken, it was a Steel, .750" Sadlak gas block installed. I had to send the first one back. The inner dimensions were totally out of spec. Sadlak sent the replacement out immediately. And they had a check sheet, that documented the use of three different tools, to ensure the replacement block was within spec. Get company for going that extra step. The rifle now has a Syrac Gen II adjustable gas block. Which I really like. I wasn't planning to go with the adjustable. But my LGS owner talked me into it after a nice discussion about suppression and ammunition. There is some wear, in places I'm watching. That seems premature considering the very low round count of the rifle. I'm also not all that excited with the Magpul Gen 3, 25rd magazine. I want to try the new Lancer L7AWM and the IMI at Aim Surplus. To see if either perform better then the Magpul. Quoted:
A little grave digging but....nice build I'm lookin to build with the m5 set. How did the range go? Also, is that an adjustable gas block? |

I cant load 20 or 25 rounders all the way because the top round wont strip. I want to get a few lancers but yikes $47 per is a little steep. |

With the Magpul's, if fully loaded. They won't lock up on a closed bolt. Also, when fully loaded, there is a slight forward cant to the magazine. And the first couple of rounds really struggle to get up and over the feed ramp.

I have wear on the upper receiver I'm watching in the charging handle key way and also some in the BCG channel.
Is the M5 a good receiver set to start with for a first time build. Yes, for the price, it is. It's of good quality from a company that is reputable. Aero makes some good stuff in general. I will throw out some caution though, for a Franken-Build 308AR. It's not an easy task. And if something doesn't work out of the gate the first time. It can be hard to diagnose the problem. Use good quality parts, don't cut any corners. And even then, because there are no standards, there are many places in the build process, where things can go wrong. And when they do, there is no support to fall back upon. Quoted:
Thanks for replying. What are you noticing the premature wear on? Would you recommend the M5 set for a first-time build? |

I just saw another guy is having binding issues with the BCM Gunfighter Charge Handle in his M5, and that part has become the staple baseline quality charge handle on the market. What charge handle are you using? That's another area that I didn't expect to see problems. What next? It's turning out much worse than I said it would, and my anticipation of what to expect was really freaking bad. This is worse. |

I'm using the Raptor charging handle. For the limited amount of rounds fired. The handle looks like it has been used to fire much more. And when I look at the wear on the handle, you can easily see, in the key way, the wear patterns.
