[ARCHIVED THREAD] - Another LMT PIston Question

I read in a magazine article that the LMT Piston upper does not like the lighter .223 load and cycling becomes an issue, short stroking is a high possibility. Does anyone here have this problem? Can you shoot .23 reliably in the Pistion gun?

I've shot about 2K worth of PMC Bronze .223 and AE XM193 .223 with no issues at all.

What magazine did this article appear in?

I've shot about 1.5k rounds of PMC Bronze (considered to be underpowered when compared with 5.56 ammo) through my LMT Piston 16 Carbine, without a hiccup.

It as one of the G&A publications, "Book of the AR 15", it had the LMT piston upper on the front cover....I will dig it out today and will give you the exact date.

I remember reading that article. The early LMT Pistons had a small gas port and had to be opened up. As far as the accuracy with the 55 GR bullets, every barrel has a life of its own. Mine loves them. You can't base anything on a sample of 1.

i've shot around 500 rounds of some cheap 55 grain hot shot ammo without any problems.

I remember that article and it was for the very first production models. Issue has been addressed.

It certainly appears so. Mine eats .223 like mini M&Ms.

I talked to one of the guys at my favorite gun store today and he too confirmed the fix, as his MRP Piston has no issues with .223. He did say this was an earlier problem with the piston that was corrected.
