Like many people I just bought an AR Lower due to political circumstances. It is a stripped Rock River lower. Now I need help on the build. I have around 1000-1200 to build the rest. Next step is lower parts kit. I am getting overwhelmed with all the parts out there. Not just lower parts, but all the parts.

I need to know:

1. Is a 2 stage trigger worth the extra money? If so what is the best one to get.

2. What upper and stock would you get with remaining money? I am guessing I would have around a grand left to buy the upper and stock.

I have looked at rock river uppers. I like them, but was also interested in a YHM upper I saw that came with rails.

Anyways. Just help the new guy build an awesome rifle.

Thanks

I like 2 stages..you can get to the sear and break the shot at that point.

As for an upper, Dude, we need more info..what is the intended use of the rifle and where are you shooting and at what???

I will be using it mainly for the range. Might possibly use it for hunting. It along with AK will mainly be my SHTF weapons.

If you're building a precision or long-range rifle, you should definitely consider a 2-stage trigger. For a battle/duty weapon, I personally prefer a cleaned up single stage trigger. You can save money by sending Bill Springfield the single stage trigger that comes in your LPK and having him do his trigger job on it.

I won't bother spending the extra money for a 2 stage trigger unless you are planning this to be a more accurate setup.  I'd just get a Stag Arms or CMT or CMMG lower kit and call it good.  If you decide the need is there for a 2 stage trigger, go Rock River Arms.

As far as an upper goes, a nice 16" barreled setup is hard to beat for overall mobility/weight/bullet velocity.  If you want a more accurate setup, an 18" or 20" would be fine.

If I had a stripped lower and I wanted to build a very nice weapon for SHTF senarios I think I'd build this (and I think many will agree).

BCM 16" Midlength Flat top upper ($450)
BCM Bolt carrier group and charging handle ($150)
MI Midlength FF railed handguard ($200)
Larue fixed rear sight or Troy flip sight ($90-$140)
Stag Arms Lower Parts kit ($60)
Sling adapter ($20)
Stag Arms stock kit minus M4 stock ($50)
Magpul CTR Stock ($90)
Magpul MIAD pistol grip ($35)
Spectre One point sling ($30)
Total = $1225

If you want a cheaper setup:

Stag Arms 16" M4 Flat top upper with Samson FF railed handguard and ARMS 40L rear flip sight from Legal Transfers ($650)
Stag Arms Lower Parts kit ($60)
Sling adapter ($20)
Stag Arms stock kit minus M4 stock ($50)
Magpul MOE Stock ($50)
Magpul MOE pistol grip ($20)
Spectre One point sling ($30)
Total = $1020

If you want a cheaper setup with optics:
Stag Arms 16" M4 flat top upper with ARMS 40 rear flip sight from Legal Transfers ($485)
Stag Arms Lower Parts kit ($60)
Stag Arms stock kit minus M4 stock ($50)
Magpul MOE stock ($50)
Magpul MOE pistol grip ($20)
Aimpoint ML3 with Larue mount ($540)
Total = $1205

Ditto the thanks Artsohc - I'm in the same boat w/ only a RRA stripped lower/upper
to start with so I'll be referring to your list for an M4 build.
