Hello, I know everyone comes here and ask for help and picking a AR, well as you can read here is another help me topic. I would like to get my 1st AR and the gun shops that I go to only carries the Bushmaster line. I'm not looking to build one so please don't suggest it, I want one complete and then learn everything I can then build one later now the road. It will be use for range, plinking and fun. I would like to keep price under $1000.00, what about the BM PCWA3Y-16SL or the BM AZ-C15P97 I know two different models. Thanks in Advance Alicia |

DPMS (Panther Arms) has a fine AR line if your looking for a lower price and you do not require a chrome lined barrel. Great quality and the DPMS bull barrelled AR's are very accurate. Another vote for Bushmaster. The chrome lining of the 5.56 chamber and bore makes the rifle less finicky on ammo. I would also look at CDNN or AIM Surplus, then find a local FFL to transfer the rifle to you. I have found that in some cases, pawn shops are good about doing transfers cheap. For a first AR, reliability is crucial, if you had my buddy's Olympic FrankenAR, you would never get another one, b/c it jams all the time. I think price being the deciding factor, Bushys are the way to go. Armalite and Colt are great also, just pricier. For me, make it a M4 and a Dissapator. Good luck, and good shooting! |

I got a Rock River Arms and saved about 200 bucks as opposed to a Bushmaster give or take. Most would agree that RRA is the same quality as the BM, then again some wouldn't. You sure do have a lot of research to do. Welcome to the boards edtied to add, the cheapest I could find them was at kyarms.com I cannot vouch for them as my local gunstore decided to match their price. I just looked and they have a complete 20" for 600 even. Bushmaster sells about he same rifle off their page for a neat ONE THOUSAND dollars! I did the math and research and it was a no brainer for me. |

I don't know if this is acceptable to you or not, but it's what I did because my shop was expensive, and didn't carry much, but would order just about anything. You can mail order a complete upper and have your store order a complete lower for you. Once you have both, they simply pin together and the rifle is complete - minus magazine. I went the Rock River route, as it cost $710.00 for my A2 20 inch upper and standard trigger receiver. It also turned out to be a great looking rifle in machining and finish. RRA states a 1 MOA accuracy on most of their uppers (perhaps all). Check out their site www.rockriverarms.com The only thing missing is a mag, owner's manual and box. The magazines that come with new rifles only hold 10 rounds, so they are not really very important anyhow. If your shop won't order you a lower, you can buy directly from www.adcofirearms.com ($219 + transfer fee) and have it shipped ($4 flat) to your FFL. If $1000 is your budget, you can order a lot of accessories (;like the Harris SL-M bipod and Harris handgaurd bipod adaptor for $100) with the remaining $250 bucks or so, or upgrade to National Match trigger version for extra $100. Cost for lower should be less than $250 if your shop orders from RRA directly... took 5 days from factory order to delivery to my shop. Do yourself a favor and look at the RRA's through ADCO, they are the best prices, and also are very knowledgable folks who usually respond to emails within hours, when you have a question. I'm sure this sounds like an adco-lovefest, but I have had great service from them over the last couple months and wanted to share.
