Do they have a certain THICKNESS they must beable to Penetrate before it can be called a AP Round? Just wonder how much metal it has to Penetrate in order to be called a AP round?
Or how thick does a Metal Plate must be before it Qualify as  armor? 1inch etc?

I believe that the "AP" classification is determined(legally) by the material used in construction and what percent of the round is made up by what material. HTH.

AP rounds have a steel "core" that actually penetrates the target.  The jacket just gets the bullet down range.

Actually ,I think the copper jacket is to keep the steel core from shredding  the inside of you'r barrel. Some commercially boxed "AP" ammo lists the thickness of metal and the terminal distance at whitch the bullet will penetrate .
