Backin 2008 I bought a couple of RRA lowers...

At the time I was not aware that these should be signed in by the FFL guy as "Other" ( i think thats it anyway), not as a rifle or a pistol...

I have no idea what the guy signed these particular lowers in as, should I just assume it was the category that would allow me to build it into a rifle or a pistol?

Also, Im thinking of getting a couple more lowers...any suggestions as to who to go with (please dont tell me PSA).

I would only assume that they are rifle only. Assume they can be made into pistols could get you into some murky water.

As for new ones now, I would go to wherever you can find them in stock honestly...

That is a very good question. In Oct of 2008, the 4473 form was changed from having the ability of marking a lower as "both" to "other firearm". Prior to the change, however, quite a few dealers were simply marking them as "rifle". It is hard tp say for sure what the dealer marked them as.

Emailed the dealer who performed the transaction asking how he logged them in, this is his response...

"I logged them simply as receivers and since they could be used for either, I filed a multiple gun report with ATF ( required for more than one hand gun or receiver). I received a fax from ATF saying they do not have to be reported and they returned the report so I guess you do any thing you want with them."

Am I good to go as far as making one of these into an AR pistol?

You should be good on the federal level. You will have to check your local laws.

I would think you would be fine even if he had marked them as rifles. That'd be his fuck-up, not yours. And you having a receipt that says stripped lowers just covers your butt even more.

Just remember that if it was built into a rifle at one time, it has to stay that way. And don't forget your local pistol laws (for example, here in Michigan it needs to be registered)

I thought if it was built as a pistol first, it could be turned into a rifle, then back into a pistol. But if built as a rifle first, it has to stay a rifle. Correct me if I'm wrong, please. (as I know several will)
