Just trying to complete a build and I'm down to a few parts. I'm stuck on the muzzle device. The build is a pistol with s 8" barrel with a 9" FF rail. I need something that does not have any side ports. I'm looking at either a Kaw Valley linear comp or a slimline flash can like a flaming pig. Any opinions?

I like low cost and functional... for 223/556 Levang. Kaw Valley should work fine too. More a matter of what's most important to you... a particular look or the cost.
They will all do the same job of deflecting the blast away from you.

I think you will like a basic slimline flash can on an upper like that. No real need to spring for a Noveske. There is a shorter version put out by Guntec that would work fine with that setup. Street price should be around $35.

Just a couple more options to cloud up your decisions. Living in Montana, I love my Montana manufacturers.

Elite Iron makes a two piece muzzle device. The main piece is a traditional brake with ports all around which also has course threads on it. You can thread on the included cap, turning it into a linear comp that only ports out the front, or it is also used as a suppressor mount for their CQC Elite suppressor.

Then SI Defense has their new Blast Cap, but that thing is huge! It's almost the size of a small suppressor.

KAK flashcan works well and is cheap.

I'm a fan of some of the Damage Industries muzzle devices. Their standard projector is on my Tavor and it just throws everything forward. They have a v2 system that is an outer sleeve you can attach to one of the iunner devices as well, so if you want a compensator or flash hider you can add that too, but still have it projected forwards.

Their stuff goes on sale very often (it is 50% off now), although the standard Mk.1 Projector is out of stock it seems.

OP, you need to know the ID of your rail as some of the flash cans may not fit into your rail or be damn tight.

if you want good concussion control and some flash hiding, you might want to try the PWS CQB muzzle device.

I like these too, but at 1.96 they have to be proud of the handguard, I haven't seen a handguard yet that big of an I.D. and wouldn't want to run that size anyways JMHO

If you look closer that dimension is 1 9/16" not 1.96"

I have used Levang and like them.  I also just noticed Midwest Ind has a linear flash for a decent price.
