Today, the wife asked if I wanted to go with her while she browsed an antique store. Whilst there, I noticed what appeared to by two very new 20 round Colt AR mags in a cabinet, marked $35 (includes ammo!). The rampant Colt & AR-15 Cal. 5.56 Hartford CT baseplates.

The mags were loaded with FMJ, so I asked the fellow who worked there if I could see the follower. He proceeded to rip out the ammo, which is a mix of .222 Remington Norma headstamp & 5.56 marked P8 80.05, with no NATO cross, but annular primer crimp. Underneath all the ammo, were as new aluminum followers.

Dude says: $50 for both, if you want them. So I bought them. Kinda spendy, I know, but I needed a couple aluminum Colt mags for my RBRD. the feedlips have no wear, and there are just scuffs from bouncing around a box--they really look quite new.

What perplexes me if the .222 Remington Norma ammo--I know there were .222 ARs exported & maybe some even stayed in the USA. I wish these mags could talk. But I suspect somebody who didn't know the difference just loads whatever ammo would fit.

So.....$50 for the mags, but how much did Mama cost you at the junk shop?

I had to go junking the week after Christmas to keep her from kicking me out. I picked up a WWII front seam M1 helmet repainted for 80's duty, complete with the angled hardware chinstrap, for $31.

$11 for the helmet and $20 more for an ugly clock for her!

Good find. $25 a piece aint bad for good condition USGI mags.

I'd chuck the rounds or pull them for components. No telling what conditions they've been in.

A few years back I picked up a complete pretty much unused Colt WW2 1911A1 slide assy to include barrel and all other parts for $75.00. It was sitting in a anique shop down on US 12 by Allen Mi.

In the early to mid 1980s, I saw two  .222 Colt AR-15 SP1s for sale at gun shows in Ohio (two separate times) and remember seeing some for sale in Shotgun News at the same time. Some of these export guns wound up staying in the U.S. so maybe an owner of one of these had the mags you bought.

I think you did well
Not to mention a great story
My first purchase in the US in early 1979 as a young lad in Hawaii was a Colt AR15 magazine at the military museum in Honolulu

Feel free to share pics :)

I bought a bunch of original USGI 20s (including Colt) at a pawnshop for $4 each about four years ago.
