Let's discuss what ak47 and FRT trigger combos you have actual first hand knowledge and experience with that genuinely run. Not "my friends friend has one that works", or "I saw a video of one that was running like a sewing machine". Only known combos that work here. I will go first, by telling you one that doesn't work lol. The Diablo trigger by Texas triggers has been a waste of time and money so far. Still not giving up trying to make it run in a yugo m70 and an arsenal slr 105 but close to it....... That being said- what have you guys found that works???? |

I am very interested in this topic myself. Anyone tried the MARS V2? Attached File |

I have two that work essentially flawlessly. 1) MARS V2 on a PSA AK104. It took some tweaking/polishing but was in part because of my side folding trunion and the reset lever needed adjustment but it was one of the earlier prototype versions. 2) Texas Triggers BERYL for my mini Beryl turned Russian Krinkov clone. Was literally a drop in and worked! Never expected it to work this good. The AK-104 is actually not so easy to control compared to the 5.56 Krink. I want Texas Triggers to make a Drop in for the KP-9! |

I like that it’s a robust design. Some AK FRTs look downright flimsy. Required modification to prevent potential OOB issue. Works fine if you don’t manhandle the trigger, but won’t reset if you ape-hand it. I’m slightly disappointed in it. I rate it at “ok, not great”. I really hope that the quality of AK FRTs gets better. A true 3-pos would be awesome. |

I’ll try to post some info later |

Before you buy one, I would ask the manufacturer specifically, how many rounds it will run before the draw-bar needs adjustment/replacement. I designed the first AK-47 Drop In Auto Sear back in 2000, which used the same type of draw bar these guys are using now, and it was plagued with draw bar issues. The carrier tends to beat the front of the draw bar until it stretches, bends, or breaks. Timing keeps getting later and later, until it stops. The most I ever got out of a draw bar was 1,000 rounds and that was in an original Galil ARM. I imagine if you resort to modifying the bolt carrier, you could really beef up the size of the draw bar, which I never did. Tony Rumore Tromix ETA - Heat treating a long skinny shaft like that is going to be a nightmare. It's going to want to warp all to hell. |

As you know, if you were to ask an FRT manufacturer how long their bar will last, you would be unlikely to even get a reply. If they did reply, the answer would be that they can't even guarantee function, much less a minimum number of rounds it will last. That's the problem, the wide variation of AK tolerances, vs the "mil- spec" nature of AR type rifles. Thus my question- has anyone found one that just works, without too many kinks? I agree with you, the wire type bar seems flimsy, while the rigid type bar seems prone to breakage. Would a thicker flat spring- steel type bar be a possibility to bridge the durability gap? |

YMMV, but that Texas Triggers Diablo has been easy and 100% reliable for me and friends in 6 guns total |

The Mars V2 Hammer version (milled receiver type) didn’t fit in a Bulgarian milled receiver. But it did fit in a MAK-90 just fine, and at least with dry fire seems to be a huge improvement over the “super safety Beta” type some places sell. That one has been problematic at best so far. AR SS kind of ruins you for other triggers, since it just works. I gave up on the AK SS as I just have not had time to screw with it much beyond the first few attempts. Hoping the Mars V2 works as well as it dry fires. Might get a chance to try it this weekend. |
a loaded gun won’t set you free, so you say…

What if I started with a US milled receiver and US trigger? And then as many US parts? Would that potentially reduce variability? Basically if I wanted to assemble an ak47 style starting with an FRT, as opposed to after. |
Words fall from your mouth like shit from ass.

Bounces all over as the Mak-90 does not have a slant break though. And the trigger slap sucks pretty bad, as in after a couple mags you are ready to put it away. Just not in the same ballpark of usability as a basic GI trigger in an AR with an FRT. Edit- forgot to mention- I have done some SOT gunsmithing for another FFL and as such have some trigger time with a real F/A AK, specifically a 7,62 version in which I installed a bulgarian rate reducer and trigger set. The FRT sucks to shoot, but regular F/A is totally different and is enjoyable. Basically not having your finger slammed so much makes all the difference…. If there is some trigger group requiring a lot less motion to fire and reset, it might be more viable. |

I keep looking for an answer without trigger slap. It seems like it would be less with a short throw trigger like the Red Star Arms/Power Custom. RSA |

A member on AKFiles says this is releasing soon: https://kalashtriggers.com/ |
Interesting how it works.![]() 3 position ak frt / super safety proof of function. |

It doesn’t change the fact that there is a huge amount of variability between different AKs. It’s pretty much impossible to build a FRT and guarantee it’ll work with a variety of AKs without a lot of tinkering. |

And I believe it will be cassette style which should reduce tolerance stacking issues. The only real question is that do you really want to support somebody with morality issues? |

RSA This definitely makes sense…but the only time I have ever had trigger slap was dropping in an AZR MBT into a mrp piston gun without nearly enough adjustment. Thats a very short travel trigger and it definitely got my attention. Reminded me of head shake in a bike. Did not enjoy. But of course it follows that the longer the trigger return, the more violent it might be. |
